[Editor’s Note: The article contains spoilers from the Ted Lasso series finale.]While the series finale Ted Lasso delivered a fairly definitive climax - especially for its protagonist - some questions no doubt remain and will bother fans for a while that could be answered in a potential spin-off - co-wrote Brendan Hunt did not give the same clear answer. The episode in which AFC Richmond finished second in the English Premier League also featured Ted (Jason Sudeikis) to resign from his post as manager to return to America.

However, at the end, when Ted was flying home to Kansas City, we were shown a montage of the series’ secondary characters, each with their own happy ending - Keely (Juno Temple) and RebeccaHannah Waddingham) form the AFC Richmond women’s team, Rebecca meets with a mysterious Dutchman from Amsterdam to possibly romance Roy (Brett Goldstein) is called Ted’s replacement and more. However, in one prominent scene, coach Hunt Beard marries his girlfriend Jane, surrounded by the entire staff of AFC Richmond with Roy as his best man.

But that begs the question - where is Ted? Why wasn’t he at his best friend’s wedding? The somewhat fantastical nature of the scene - the lighting, the location (of course it was Stonehenge) and the fact that Ted wakes up from his sleep at the end of the cut - led many to suspect that it was all a dream Ted had. wishing all the best to the friends he left behind, but now Hunt weighed what the scene’s intentions really were.

Where was Ted during Beard’s wedding?

Speaking during a Reddit AMA, Hunt was first asked if the scene was real or made up, and he simply replied that what was shown to the public was “real”. He was then asked why Ted wouldn’t be attending Beard’s wedding, to which he replied that it was solely due to the order of the scenes and how disappointing it would look, given the deep nature of their friendship, which we learned about in the penultimate episode.

“There are several reasons,” he explained. “First, this is the narrative: Ted has just boarded a plane and left the UK. [so] it would be disappointing and discouraging if we suddenly saw him there even before his plane had landed. Secondly, this is just such a friendship between Ted and Byrd.

“Personally, I think Byrd called Ted and told him he could skip it, and Ted thanked because the ceremony conflicted with Henry’s big football team game,” Hunt said. “The history of their relationship is long periods of meetings and long periods of absence. We entered one of the last ones, but the first one will reappear at some point. They love each other, they’ll see each other again.”
