After over a decade of technological advancement and waiting to see a new story from the legendary director, Avatar: Path of Water (2022) was finally released in 2022. Legendary director James Cameron spent nearly twenty years of his life creating the world of Pandora, telling an epic saga of an invading human race and a defending Na’vi people, and looking at the critical and commercial success of the sequel, that long period of time was well…spent. Critics praised the long-awaited sequel as a flawless sequel, with some of the best visuals ever seen in cinemas, as well as a more emotional story and vastly improved performance over the original film. Collider’s own senior film editor and self-proclaimed “Avatar unbelieving” Ross Bonime had the pleasure of seeing the new sequel and praised the film as “one of the most extraordinary experiences you can get in theaters.”
But while we’re celebrating what Cameron and the rest of the cast and crew have been working on all along, it’s been so long since the last movie came out that some may need to be reminded of where we left off in history back in 2009. Many were lucky to see Avatar (2009) will be re-released in theaters this September, adding a little more money to the heap of the highest-grossing movie ever made. During this time, the new parent company 20th Century Disney, in a possible experiment to gauge public interest in the franchise all those years later, removed Avatar from his streaming home on Disney+ so that people have the maximum reason to go to the cinema and watch the film in the setting in which it was supposed to be shown.
Naturally, not everyone was able to see this during one week of limited participation, which resulted in Avatar fans around the world are wondering if the first movie is back on streaming so they can watch it again before part 2. If one of those fans were to read below, they would quickly find the answer.

What is the plot of Avatar?
The action takes place in 2154. Avatar is the story of Jake Sully, a disabled veteran who recently lost his twin brother Tom. His twin’s employers, the Resource Development Administration, or RDA for short, contact Jake and provide him with a completely unique opportunity. The RDA is currently excavating on the planet Pandora; a hostile jungle environment inhabited by a sentient alien race known as the Na’vi. In an attempt to forge peaceful relations with the Na’vi, the RDA creates the Avatar Program, an initiative that creates clones mixed with human and Na’vi DNA, where a person can transfer their consciousness into a being. Tom was one of these Avatar scientists/pilots, and since Jake’s physiology is almost identical to that of his twin brother, he is the only real candidate for his place.
When Jake arrives on Pandora, he meets the Avatar science team led by Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), who takes an immediate dislike to Jake, as he is not as scientifically intelligent as his brother. Jake also meets Quaritch (Stephen Lang); the head of the RDA’s extensive security team, who offers Jake the opportunity to cover up for a costly procedure that would allow him to walk all the time while he acts as a spy for him. Jake takes an immediate liking to being the Avatar and eventually meets the Na’vi through Neytiri, the daughter of the chief of the local tribe. With the help of Neytiri, Jake learns the path of the Na’vi and begins the process of being accepted into the tribe.
Jake eventually finds himself at a difficult crossroads. Does he aid the RDA in spying so they can harvest the planet, or will he side with humanity and help the Na’vi defend their home?
