Editor’s Note: The following contains Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 spoilers.
Not surprising Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the longest film James Gunntrilogy as the director gives everything he has before saying goodbye to Marvel Studios. As a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 highlights that the third chapter of the trilogy explores the current Guardian team’s final mission, meaning we can expect heavy losses and emotional retirement. Besides, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 adds Will Poulter as Adam Warlock featuring Maria Bakalova like the voice of Cosmo the Sapcedog, and giving Chukwudi Iwuji the role of the villainous High Evolutionary. As if all this wasn’t enough Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 also returns Ravagers, with Sylvester Stallone returning as Stakar Ogord. But who are the Ravagers? And why is Stallone’s character so important?
Who are the Ravagers in the MCU?
Ravagers were introduced in 2014. guardians of the galaxy as a group of space pirates. Led by Yudu Udonta (Michael Rooker), Ravagers steal precious items, transport illegal cargo, and settle for any shady deals that might put some money in their pockets. As explained in the first movie, the Ravagers kidnapped Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) from an unknown third party. However, since Yondu grew fond of the Terran child, he decided to raise Peter as his own. While Ravagers can be vicious and ruthless, they follow a strict code of honor. That’s why they come to Xandar’s aid when the planet is attacked by Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) at the end of the first movie.
In 2017 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 deeply expanded the mythology of the Ravagers. As we learn, the Ravagers are a crime syndicate made up of hundreds of different factions, each with its own captain. Yondu was the leader of one particular Ravager faction that was expelled from the syndicate after he accepted child smuggling for Ego (Kurt Russell). Though the Ravagers are criminals, they have standards, and leading children to their deaths is against their code. This is why Yodu was exiled by Stakar, the captain of the main Ravager faction. By the end Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Yondu sacrifices his life to stop Ego and save Quill. Because of his honorable death, the Ravagers give Yondu a proper funeral, giving him the honor of becoming a Ravager again.
However, this is not the last time we see Stakar, as the leader of the Ravagers returns in one of five post-credits scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In this scene, Stakar calls on the other Ravager captains to catch up. After Yondu’s death, the leader of the Ravagers says that it may be time to reassemble the original band of outlaws to sail through space as they once did before. Stakar’s words indicate that the Ravagers were born from a single team of outlaws, of which Yondu was also a member. And since this scene shows each of the main captains that Stakar talks to, we realize that the oldest Ravagers of the MCU are actually the original Marvel Comics Guardians of the Galaxy.
Ravager leaders are the true Guardians of the Galaxy.
The MCU uses the Guardians of the Galaxy team, which was formed at Marvel Comics by Peter Quill in 2008. However, the history of the team goes far into the past. The first appearance of the Guardians of the Galaxy in Marvel comics was in 1969 and the original team was very different from what most people know. That’s because the original Guardians of the Galaxy stories were set around the year 3000 in an alternate Marvel timeline known as Earth-691. guardians of the galaxy the comic book series was, for the first time, unrelated to the Marvel Comics central continuity, which was set on Earth-616. Instead, these comics served as more of an excuse for Marvel Comics to publish futuristic sci-fi stories.
In the comics, Stakar is the leader of the first team of Guardians. However, since the Gunn trilogy does not include alternate timelines or time travel, the director introduced the character by making him the leader of the first team of Ravagers. Each character in Stakar’s end credits Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is also a member of the first version of the Guardians in the comics.
First, we have Michelle Yeoh like Aleta. In the comics, Aleta Ogord is Stakar’s adopted sister, who eventually became his wife. The two heroes share the powers of a god, which means that they can only exist in the material plane once at a time. The comics were even weirder in the late 1960s and no one would complain if the MCU drastically changed Aleta’s origins and her relationship with Stakar if they ever decided to turn her into a main character. The scene also contains Wing Rhames like Charlie-27. Born on Jupiter, Charlie-27 is a genetically engineered human soldier designed to withstand the planet’s gravity. In addition to super strength and superhuman stamina, Charlie-27 is also an excellent military fighter.
The ending credits scene also featured an entirely CGI version of Krugarr, an alien from the planet Lem. In the comics, Krugarr is a former apprentice of Doctor Strange who became the Sorcerer Supreme. Another strange character in the end credits scene is Mainframe, voiced by Miley Cyrus. In the comics, the Mainframe is a futuristic version of the Vision that becomes a computer program and no longer needs a physical body. Finally the scene shows Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex, another genetically engineered human from an interplanetary colony, this time from Pluto. The crystals covering Martinex’s body allow him to withstand Pluto’s extreme temperatures and give him the ability to manipulate heat and cold.
The Ravagers are back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3′
Ravagers are back in action Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3acting as space pirates hired by Nebula (Karen Gillan) to help the Guardians infiltrate the high security facility. While Tom. 2 teased the iconic team, the Ravagers team, who appears in Vol. In 3 there is neither Aleta nor Charlie-27. However, the rest of the gang has returned, with Stakar acting as leader and Krugarr showing off his magical skills. Martinex and Mainframe also returned, despite Cyrus having been replaced by Loki star Tara Strong like the voice of a robot. IN Volume. 3Gamora variant (Zoe Saldanha) that came from another timeline in Avengers: Endgame also found a home among the Ravagers, which is why Nebula turned to the pirates in the first place. So while we still didn’t have the amazing team we hoped to have after Volume. 2The Ravagers are still roaming the galaxy, and nothing is stopping them from returning in future Marvel Studios titles.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 currently available in theaters.
