Oscar returned to live performances in the Best Song category. And good! The performance of Best Song becomes one of the highlights of the night. Because we’re seeing songs that have graced some of our favorite films throughout the year. And really being able to see them live again was really a great choice overall.
From some of the best films of the year to one nomination for another, in this category, some of our favorite performers have taken the Oscar stage and shown us exactly why they deserve to be there. The biggest insult of the evening was 4 Town’s “Nobody Like You” from blushes was not featured and he really deserved to be there.
But still, we had some absolutely incredible performances to watch throughout the evening, from full dance performances to stripped-down performances and soaring orchestral arrangements, the 95th Academy Awards had it all.
“Applause” from Say it like a woman
Performs Sofia Carsontrack from Say it like a woman was perhaps the slowest of the evening and the dark horse of the competition. It’s elevated by the fact that it was written by a 14-time Academy Award nominee. Diane Warrenwho wrote some really powerful ballads. While it may not have carried the weight of “I don’t want to miss anything,” Carson did a great job with her performance overall.
“This Is Our Life” from All Everywhere All at once
David Byrne and Stephanie Hsu? Ideal. Byrne has his arms outstretched and his fingers are on a hot dog? Again, perfect. Whenever Byrne performs, you know it’s a brilliant glimpse into his mind. And what Xu sang really showed how talented she was. Yes, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, but she’s also from Broadway and an absolutely incredible singer. When will this duo hit the stage? All Everywhere All At Once was just weird, crazy, and why we love them both so much.
“Naatu Naatu” from RRR
The special thing about “Naatu Naatu” is that it’s fireworks and the fans RRR absolutely love for a good reason. Along with the viral dance, the Oscars performance was a perfect example of why it became a fan favorite. It was such a fun rendition of a song that brings such joy to the fans of the film and those who haven’t watched it yet, and was very entertaining to watch. Performs Rahul Sipligunj And Kaala Bhairavahe won and not in vain: he is so good.
“Hold My Hand” from Top Shooter: Maverick
Lady Gaga talked about how Top Shooter: Maverick“Hold My Hand” was a deeply personal song for her. The performance captured this very literally, with the camera zooming in on Gaga, whose face was stripped of makeup and wearing a much more casual outfit than we’re used to seeing from the singer. However, her powerful vocals were truly what was on display here as she blasted her way through a soaring track in classic Gaga fashion whenever she wants to remind us that she really can sing and deserves every second of her over ten years of careers.
“Pick Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
look Rihanna rise from the stage and sing a song dedicated to life and work Chadwick Boseman was incredibly emotional. But this is the way Black Panther: Wakanda Forever generally. The film that honored Boseman’s legacy as T’Challa left us with a new Black Panther in the form of his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright), but Boseman’s strength hasn’t escaped fans. We really enjoyed seeing him again honored on stage at the Oscars.
The song may not have won, but the performance was really a hit because of Rihanna’s performance. You could feel her emotions as the scene rose from her words and overall it was touching and beautiful.

“Summons all angels”
Although it does not claim to be the best original song, Lenny Kravitz took the stage during the In Memoriam segment for a beautiful performance of his song “Calling All Angels” from his 2004 album Baptism.
