Time to head back to Pacific Coast Academy. Nickelodeon has announced that they have begun production on Zoey 102, a feature-length sequel to their hit 2000s series Zoey 101, with the return of the entire original cast. The film is slated to premiere later this year on Paramount+, though no release date has yet been announced.
Zoey 101 was one of the first of what would become Nickelodeon’s teen and kids show empire in the 2000s and 2010s, a group that also includes Drake & Josh, iCarly and Victorious, among others. The series follows Zoe Brooks (Jamie Lynn Spears) as she is one of the first girls to be admitted to Pacific Coast Academy, a boarding school that used to only accept boys. The film follows a returning cast including Spears, Erin Sanders, Sean Flynn, Matthew Underwood, Christopher Massey, Abby Wilde and Jack Salvatore reuniting for a wedding in the present day. While other plot details are scarce, the return of the entire original cast for the sequel is massive, especially for those of a generation that grew up with Zoe Brooks and her friends.
“I’m thrilled to be back with my PCA family and continue the story of Zoe and all the characters that fans know and love,” Spears said of the film. “For an executive producer, it was a great opportunity to work with such incredible talent, as well as Paramount+ and Nickelodeon.”
Spears executive produces along with Alexis Fisher, as well as Nancy Hauer, who directs the film, and Monica Scherer and Madeleine Whitby, who wrote the film’s screenplay. The series is currently in production in North Carolina, directed by Zach Olin and Shauna Phelan, and the film is expected to hit streaming sometime this year. The Paramount+ original isn’t the first time Nickelodeon has revived one of its classic teen shows for streaming - their iCarly revival series was recently renewed for a third season, and they recently premiered Blue’s Big City Adventure, a sequel to the classic. children’s series Blue’s Clues.
