Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for the season finale. Willow.

After eight episodes filled with danger and magic, Willow reached its end. And while the series wraps up most of its plot threads, Willow still leaves some things open for a possible second season. This means that some mysteries remain unsolved, and we are far from understanding what exactly is at stake in Tir Aslin.

AT WillowIn the first episode, an evil witch that people call the Old Woman kidnaps Airk (Dempsey Bryk), prince of Tir Aslin and descendant of Sorsha (Joan Whalley) and Madmartigan (Val Kilmer). During the season, adventurers team up to save Eirk, who is literally going to the ends of the earth. In the center of everything Elora Danan (Ellie Bamber), the last descendant of Chimeria and the only person capable of defeating the Old Woman. Elora was unaware of her powers prior to the journey and only joined the group because she was in love with Eirk. However, at the end Willow, she rose to the occasion and became a force of nature. A lot happens in the last episode Willowso let’s break down the season finale bit by bit.

At the end of episode 7, Elora and Princess Kit (Ruby Cruz) put their differences aside and vowed to work together to defeat the Crone and save Eirk. They jump off the edge of the world, believing that the leap of faith is their last test on their way to the City of Forgetfulness. Their hunch pays off when they reach the abandoned city and find Airk. However, the rest of the group is left behind and forced to decide what to do next.

AT WillowIn the season finale, the members of Elora’s adventure party decide to follow her. Jade (Erin Kellyman) jumps first. Like WillowWarwick Davis) tells her that Kit’s destiny is to protect Elora, as her father, Madmartigan, did before her. However, Jade is in love with Kit and decides that she should be there too to protect the princess. Graydon (Tony Revolori) follows him as he loves Elora and wants to find purpose in his life. Burman first (Amar Chadha-Patel) refuses to jump off the edge of the world, still wearing the mask of a selfish warrior. But when Willow tells Boorman how loyal and brave he really is, the thief decides to give his life for the cause. Only Willow remained, still shaken by visions of his daughter Mims.Annabelle Davis), dying. Willow decides that his family is his top priority and turns his back on his party, heading home alone.

With a leap of faith, Jade, Graydon and Burman find themselves in the City of Forgetfulness. They reach the core of the abandoned place where the Temple of the Serpent is sealed. Burman uses brute force and Graydon uses magic, but the trio are unable to open the doors in time to escape the sandstorm. And to make matters worse, the storm is made of dark magic, turning every person it touches to stone. The trio traveled to the Immemorial City to save their friends. But in the end, they are the ones who need to be saved.

When Elora and Kit reach the City of Forgetfulness, they are greeted by Eirck. The Prince is now an ally of the Old Woman, who is actually a sorceress named Lily (Rosabel Laurenti Sellers). As Eirk tells them both, the stories that the Old Woman was evil were lies, and he now realizes that the Wyrm only wants to change the world for the better. Eirck also pleads with Elora and Kit, asking them to speak to the Crone themselves. Realizing that the only way to save Eirk is to play along, Elora and Kit enter the Temple of the Serpent, where the Old Woman is waiting for them.

We see open doors inside the Temple, where a bright yellow light comes from. The door also comes out with a yellow liquid that the adventurers found at the bottom of the troll shaft. As Eirck explains, the liquid comes from the Wyrm and nourishes all who follow it. The old woman also tells Elora and Kit that they should step out into the light and be ready to make a choice as the Wyrm will show them how wonderful the world can be. So Elora and Keith walk through the lock doors, lost in the glow of a fake paradise.

Temptations and Choices

As they cross the Serpent Temple’s inner doors, Kit and Elora are teleported to a paradise illusion where they are given the choice to drink the Serpent’s yellow liquid and become allies of the world-conquering entity. To seduce Elora, the Wyrm uses Eirk and the promise of a loving life on the prince’s side. As for Kit, she is met by Sorsha’s mother, who promises to give her a life of freedom instead of duty. The Wyrm tells them that he can change the past and give them a second chance at life without all the death and suffering they have faced. It sounds like a good deal and they both tend to take it.

Before Kit can drink the sinister liquid, she hears Madmartigan’s voice coming from wherever he is to tell her daughter that she is stronger than she thinks. Madmartigan explains that protecting Elora was his way of making the world a safer place, and that Kit is now the one to carry on his legacy. Kit resigns himself to his fate as Elora’s protector and rejects the Wyrm. Unfortunately, the Old Woman turns her to stone for this crime.

Elora is more forgiving and agrees to a fake wedding with Eirk. Through the Prince’s kiss, the Wyrm wants to steal Elora’s power and use it to conquer the world. However, at the altar, Elora realizes that she no longer wants this life. In fact, she does not want to do what she is told and is ready to find her own way. The old woman is furious with Elora and threatens to take her life. Luckily, Willow comes to everyone’s rescue.

Willow to the rescue

By the time Willow arrives at the City of Forgetfulness, a storm has changed the whole place. Flames rise from the depths of the city, and hidden stone walls open up to unleash an army of malformed creatures. Willows is there just in time to dispel the illusion of the Wyrm, awaken Elora, and return his stone friends to their former flesh incarnation. As a direct response to Nelwyn’s intervention, Lily transforms into a terrifying Crone and summons Storms to her side. In short, Willow’s arrival also marks the beginning of the final battle for the fate of Tir Aslin.

The first casualty of the battle comes after Elora uses the Wand of Cherlyndrea to attack the Crone. Eirk, still under the spell of the Wyrm, jumps in front of the Crone to protect her, causing Elora to drop her wand. Graydon takes a magical weapon and uses it to attack the witch. Unfortunately, he is not strong enough to defeat the villain. So, the Old Woman pushes Graydon through the Temple’s inner door, apparently killing him. The old woman also takes the wand of Cherlyndrea. and breaks it in half.

While the Crone draws first blood in battle, Graydon’s death helps Elora channel her inner magical potential. After that, the girl no longer needs a wand, and she can summon lightning bolts that appear out of thin air. Elora is not the only group member to receive a buff during the final battle, as Burman gives the Chimerian Cuirass to Keith. He finally realizes that he is unworthy of the power of the magical armor, but Keith is chosen to protect Elora, so she must wear it. Burman’s last gift remains inside the Temple to fight the Storms alone while everyone takes the fight with the Crone to the streets of the City of Forgetfulness.

Outside the Temple of the Wyrm, Jade and Kit engage Eirk, who is still in the Wyrm’s domain. Meanwhile, Willows fights a horde of monsters while Elora herself fights the Crone. After Willows telepathically encourages Elora, the young sorceress manages to defeat the Crone by killing the Wyrm’s main weapon against the world. However, this is not the end yet, as the Old Woman transfers her power to Eirk with her last breath.

Eirck becomes the new Harbinger of the Serpent, tasked with bringing the essence into the world. At the same time, Kit uses Lux to activate the Chimerian Breastplate, gaining the ability to ward off all evil. The two brothers fight, determined to destroy each other. But before Keith can deliver the final blow, Elora stops her. Keith is ready to sacrifice her brother for a better world, but Elora says that love is the most powerful force in the universe and what separates them from villains. So, Willow breaks his staff, gives Kit his magic stone, and tells her to use it to contact Airk. Using the stone, Keith is able to expel the evil energy from Eirk’s body, making him normal again.

After the battle, Burman emerges from the Temple victorious. The group reunites and heads for the horizon, determined to find a way back to Tir Aslin. As for Graydon, he didn’t die. Instead, the Wyrm drags him to the battlefield, where Elora stands proudly before an army of monsters. The Wyrm uses the image of Elora to tempt Greydon, and it seems that the young sorcerer may become the Harbinger of an evil entity in the second season. Now we just need Disney+ to update the series and let us know how the story ends.
