Rome: one of the most powerful empires and civilizations the world has ever known. For centuries, their imprint on humanity has been so dense that some aspects of our lives are still under the influence of this empire. So when sir Ridley Scott directed and released a Roman film Gladiator in 2000 it was a hit at the box office, grossing $457 million worldwide. The film was such a success that there have been several attempts to film a sequel since its release. Finally, it looks like the sequel is ready, and Scott is looking for actors to participate in the project.

Starred in the original film Russell Crowe starring, playing the titular General Maximus. However, a changing of the guard at the height of Roman leadership and a quarrel with the new emperor resulted in Maximus being stripped of his title, prestige and, most importantly, his family. Transformed from exalted soldier to slave, Maximus fights to exact revenge on the man who destroyed his family. Now Puck News is reporting that Scott is now looking for the lead actors for the film’s sequel. This will certainly be taken as welcome news by many who have been itching to see a sequel. Other sequels have been proposed in the past, one of which failed, suggesting the reincarnation of our protagonist at different points in the story.

Sequel casting news Gladiator shouldn’t be too surprising. In 2021, Scott, who hopes to direct a sequel, confirmed that the script for Gladiator 2 was already finished, saying, “Oh, it was written. It’s already been written. We have a good trail, a good, logical place to go. You can’t just make another Gladiator-type movie. You have to follow…there are enough components from the first one to pick up the ball and continue it.” The news that Scott is looking for actors amid these previous comments seems to put the development of the sequel on the right track.

The biggest question for many who are looking forward to the sequel is if we can see Crowe return in the lead role. At the moment, little is known about the plot of the sequel, but there are several options for the development of events. Seeing that Maximus died in the original film, perhaps the use of supernatural techniques could aid in his reincarnation and return to the film. Possibly relying on the survival of Lucius Verus (Spencer Treat Clark) may be another way to return to that world.
