Batman fans can now read the script for The Dark Knight’s latest adventure on the big screen. Deadline releases script for director Matt Reeves’ Batman as part of the “Read the Script” series.
Batmanthe script was written by Reeves and Peter Craig. The film follows a young Batman/Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattison) who works with Jim Gordon (Geoffrey Wright) to stop the serial killer known as the Riddler (Paul Dano). This leads to Batman teaming up with Catwoman/Selina Kyle (Zoe Kravitz). Batman also agrees to help Catwoman find her missing friend Annika Kosolova. Batman and Gordon must also deal with the corruption in Gotham City, led by crime boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro).
The script also includes a deleted scene from the movie where Batman goes to talk to the Joker (Barry Keoghan) at Arkham Asylum. In this scene, Batman asks the criminal what he thinks of what kind of person the Riddler could be. In the final cut of the film, the Joker only appeared near the end when he introduced himself to the Riddler/Edward Nashton at Arkham.
“It’s more Batman in his detective style than we’ve seen in the movies,” Reeves said of Batman in 2019. “The comics have a history of that. He has to be the world’s greatest detective and that wasn’t necessarily part of what the movies were.” In May 2019, it was announced that Pattinson had been cast as the new Dark Knight. Continuation Batman is currently in development and Reeves is returning to direct. A release date for the sequel has yet to be announced. Two TV spin-offs, one of which focuses on the Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot (Colin Farrell) and one dedicated to Arkham are currently in development for HBO Max.
Batman currently available to stream on HBO Max. The next time The Dark Knight will hit the big screen is 2023. Flashwith both Affleck and Michael Keaton returning as their versions in the film. In the meantime, check out this Collider interview with Pattinson and Kravitz at Batman below:
