Mindy Kaling unsung comedy hero. She deserves all the recognition that comes her way, especially with the waves she’s made as an actress, writer, and producer over the years. Her career began two decades ago, and with so much prestige and influence in the industry, there is no limit to Kaling.
Before being in front of the camera, Mindy Kaling was an intern at Late Night with Conan O’Brien. This experience helped her build a writing portfolio while building a career in stand-up comedy. Currently, fans of her work can watch Sexual life of female studentson the HBO Maxbut for those who are already full, viewing Kalinga’s entire work may help them decide what to watch next.
7/7 ‘Office’ (2005 - 2013)
When Mindy Kaling joined us OfficeShe was only 24. In addition, she was the only female writer on the staff of eight. During her tenure as a staff writer and one of the actors (she was a fun Kelly Kapoor,) she wrote some of the show’s funniest episodes. Considering how much Ophis is loved and appreciated, achieving what she has is no small feat.
Kaling wrote 26 episodes of The Office, among which the two highest rated ones are Season 6, Episode 4 “Niagara: Part 1” as well as Season 6, episode 5 “Niagara: Part 2”. These two episodes revolve around main characters Jim and Pam and their wedding day in Niagara Falls.
6/7 “Sex Life of Students” (2021-)
Currently working Sexual life of female students this show is about… well, exactly what the title says. While it can be quite touching, the show is much more fun. It also includes some memorable characters, namely, Bela Malhotrawhich seemed to be modeled by Kaling herself.
There’s a lot more to this charming series about the adventures and pranks of four college friends than just laughs. It’s also about romance, friendship, being true to yourself, and learning the secrets of life that are often hidden in plain sight. If anyone seems familiar with the girl playing Kimberly, it’s only because she Timothy Chalametelder sister, Pauline Chalamet.
5/7 “Four Weddings and a Funeral” (2019)
Four weddings and one funeral released as a television miniseries in 2019 and is a serial adaptation of the 1994 film of the same name (which starred Hugh grant as well as Andie MacDowell). The story follows Maya (Nathalie Emmanuel) and her three friends Ainsley, Craig and Duffy, when they meet again in London to attend the wedding.
Anyone who initially enjoyed the film will enjoy watching this television adaptation; the only thing that can differentiate it from the movie is that its gags and premise take place in modern times, which has slightly different humor and notions of romance in movies. Mindy Kaling co-wrote the first two episodes, but she was the show’s executive producer and played a huge role in it.
4/7 “Project Mindy” (2012–2017)
Long-running sitcom/romantic comedy Project Mindy lasted five years and was a hit from the start. It follows New York-based OB/GYN Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) as she tries to get on with her professional life and include romance and other plans. This series has been highly acclaimed and has assembled a fairly stellar comedy cast. Hayk Baringolts, Anders Holm, Fortune Feimster, Adam Pallyas well as Beth Grantname a few.
Mindy Kaling created a series about a woman of Indian origin, based on some moments from real life (for example, her mother was an obstetrician-gynecologist). For viewers interested in Kaling’s work, starting with this (mostly eponymous) project is the best way to plunge into her fairy-tale world. Dr. Lahiri is incredibly stylish, independent and witty - a good role model for many young girls.
3/7 ‘Champions’ (2018)
Coming out of Project MindyKaling co-wrote and starred in a short-lived comedy titled Champions. She worked on this series with her former co-star. Anders Holmwho plays the main character in this show. Champions about Vince, the owner of a small gym and a fairly well-known womanizer; one day, the woman he was with shows up with a teenage boy and tells Vince that it’s his son.
The story shows how difficult it is to face the truth about life, to grow up as a responsible adult, and to forge strong bonds. While the story was not bad, it was never picked up for a second season; perhaps the numerous mixed reviews had a lot to do with it. However, for those who are interested, there are only ten episodes, so getting drunk is not difficult.
2/7 “Late Night” (2019)
The only feature film on the list Late night Kaling stars and fantastic Emma Thompson like the main characters. In this charming film, Emma Thompson plays Katherine, an ambitious and hard-working late-night show host. Her biggest goal is to keep her show from being cancelled, but her personal life suffers because of those goals.
Kaling plays Molly, a newly introduced staff writer among a group of men. Her relationship with Katherine falters, but the main goal is to write funnier and smarter jokes that would keep Katherine on the air. Knowing that Kaling was an intern on The Conan O’Brien Show and the only female writer during The Office, she likely described some of her old experiences as an aspiring writer. Despite a moderate reception from audiences, the film has a fresh 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is well worth a watch.
1/7 “I’ve Never Been” (2020–2023)
Never I never is Kaling’s most touching comedy about family, growing up and high school relationships. She said that a lot of the show was based on her real-life high school experiences, but she also went out of her way to give it her incredible trademark - great jokes. In the series, the protagonist Devi Vishwakumarwhose internal monologue leads John McEnroe. Yes, tennis legend John McEnroe.
As Devi struggles to be a teenager and maintain a good relationship with her tradition-oriented mother and grandmother, she also does her best to be a good friend and meet her own needs. This series has it all: laughter, tears, and sincerity. Too bad it ends after the fourth season airs on Netflix next year.
