The DCEU is currently in heavy traffic following the HBO Max movie news. Bat Girl was shelved by Warner Bros. One of the biggest attractions of the canceled film was the return of Michael Keaton, who was to return to cape and hood to reprise the role he played in Tim Burtonthe 1989 and 1992 versions of the character in Batman as well as Batman Returns. While Keaton’s future as the Dark Knight is up in the air now, questions about his involvement with the DCEU in the future have also begun to rise, with a new report claiming that the acclaimed actor has already filmed scenes for the DCEU. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The report was originally made by The Hollywood Reporter, who cites several sources saying that Keaton, who was supposed to be part of both Bat Girl and upcoming Flash set of 2023 filmed scenes for the upcoming Aquaman a sequel that was shown to test audiences. THR reports that these test audiences found Keaton’s inclusion “confusing as it was unclear why Keaton’s Batman was in this universe.” THR also reports that the former Batman actor has been positioned as the equivalent of Samuel L. JacksonNick Fury of the DCEU, described as “an older statesman who could appear in multiple films and offer advice.”
This report that Keaton was filming scenes for the upcoming sequel starring the King of Atlantis didn’t just come out after the cancellation. Bat Girlbut also a week after the movie star, Jason Momoait turned out that Ben Affleck will appear in the film to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne. Affleck last played this role in Zack Snyder Justice League. The reason for the change is currently unknown, although THR indicates that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was originally supposed to come out after Flashthe plot of which would be very similar to the cult Flash point Paradox a story in which Barry Allen went back in time to save his mother and thus changed the future in an unknown way. Perhaps Keaton’s Batman would have been the result of one of these changes, but with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom now out after Flash, it wouldn’t make sense in the new order of events. However, this is pure speculation and it is impossible to truly know the cause until we are told otherwise.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom we’ll see James Wandirector of the first film, once again return for the upcoming sequel, written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and Momoa himself co-wrote the plot for the upcoming sequel. Although Keaton will apparently not reappear in the film, Affleck and Momoa are both part of the cast, which includes a returning Amber Heard as Measure, Dolph Lundgren like King Nereus, Patrick Wilson returning as Master of the Ocean, as well as Temuera Morrison like Aquaman’s father, Tom Curry. Game of Thrones‘ Pilu Asbek also joins the cast in an undisclosed role. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is also set to return to reprise his role as the villainous Black Manta.
The future of Keaton’s role in the DCEU is currently unknown.Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released in theaters on March 17, 2023 with the first Aquaman The movie is available to watch on HBO Max right now. Watch one of our interviews with Keaton below:
