Actress Pat Carrollbest known for voicing the villainess Ursula in Mermaiddied at the age of 95. According to Deadline, Carroll died at her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts on July 30 while recovering from pneumonia.
Carroll began her career of over seventy years in the 1947 film. hometown girl before appearing on TV shows like Caesar’s hour (won an Emmy Award for her role) and sitcom Make room for dad. The actress has also appeared in many variety shows such as red button show, The Carol Burnett Showas well as The Steve Allen Show. She also made a name for herself on stage in productions such as Catch a star!, Everything goesas well as Cinderella where she played the Fairy Godmother. Carroll had also appeared in a television version of the same musical two decades earlier, in 1965, where she played Prunella, one of Cinderella’s half-sisters. The actress has received many theater awards for her women’s show about Gertrude Stein also.
However, Carroll is best known for voicing Ursula in Mermaid in 1989. This movie was famous for starting the Disney animation renaissance, and Carroll was the main reason behind it. This film is a classic musical animation with Ursula’s menacing presence held together by Carroll’s powerful, intimidating voice, making her one of the most memorable villains in Disney’s long history. Even outside of Disney, Ursula remains one of the best villains in cinematic history to this day.
Carroll reprized this iconic role many times over the years, first in Mermaid 1993 animated series. She will also play a villain in the popular Disney series. mouse house, Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snow at the Mouse House, Mickey’s villain houseand the popular video game series Kingdom Hearts. Carroll will also voice Ursula’s younger sister Morgana in the direct-to-video sequel to the franchise. The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea in 2000. Carroll’s other notable film credits include The O’Toole Brothers, Racing with the moonand an English dubbed version of the Studio Ghibli classic. My Neighbor Totoro.
Carroll was an underrated trailblazer in the industry. She will forever remain a part of the Disney family and the actress will live with her huge list of memorable performances.
