Streamer rep spoke to Deadline about programming shift and bad decision to cancel Chronicles of Gorditasaying:

Live children’s and family programming will not be a part of our programming for the foreseeable future and as a result we have had to make the very difficult decision to end The Gordita Chronicles on HBO Max. The series has been critically acclaimed and a dedicated fan base, and we’re proud to have worked with creator Claudia Forestieri and our two powerful executive producers, Eva Longoria (who also masterfully directed the pilot) and Zoë Saldanha, to bring Cook’s journey to the screen. We thank them, as well as the talented cast and crew, for creating such a sincere, innovative show that connects closely with a very important demographic.

Executive producers of the series Eva Longoria as well as Zoe Saldanha reacted to the news and expressed disappointment with the decision:

We are heartbroken by the big HBO Max programming changes that will prevent our special show, The Chronicles of Gordita, hosted by LatinX comedy company Bridget Munoz-Liebovitz, from running a second season in its original home. As producers and storytellers constantly looking for authentic and original stories that highlight the joy and talent of our community, we are very proud to have worked on this magic. We continue to be overwhelmed by the overwhelmingly positive critical response coupled with growing viewership numbers that prove that viewers recognize the importance of this show’s existence and the key place it holds for LatinX content in the media landscape.

The series was created Claudia Forestieriwho wrote the pilot and was also an executive producer. Josh Berman also served as executive producer with Jennifer Robinson as well as Chris King by Osprey Productions based on SPT. Bridget Munoz-Liebovitz served as showrunner and executive producer for Bons Mots Emporium. Longoria directed the pilot and was an executive producer for UnbeliEVAble Entertainment. Saldanha, Mariel Saldanaas well as Cicely Saldanha worked as an executive producer for Cinestar Pictures.
