More and more companies are openly encouraging employees to return to their offices. Remote work adopted during the pandemic will not work in all cases. Amazon has had enough.
Remote work and hybrid work is the best way out of the COVID-19 pandemic for many employees. Many people, despite the fact that the biggest threat has long since passed, still work in this model. Some employers have a growing problem with this.
Amazon warns employees
What is a blessing for employees is often a problem for companies. The biggest tech companies have long been urging their employees to return to the office. However, some of them are beginning to lose patience with people who are unwilling to adapt to the new mode of operation.
Amazon reached out to such people in a special email. The management wrote in it that the presence of employees in the office is monitored, and the people who received the email in question had a too low ratio of working in the office compared to working from home. How do we read “failed to meet company expectations of meeting with colleagues at least three times a week”.
Companies are tired of remote work
Amazon is not the first company to take an open and strict approach to remote work abuse. Tech companies are particularly active in bringing employees back to their offices. Much more restrictive rules have already been introduced, for example. Disney and, interestingly, the company that excelled in remote work and thanks to the pandemic, i.e. zoom.
Amazon warning emails have been sent to people who haven’t followed the three-day-in-the-office rule in five of the last eight or three of the last four weeks. Interestingly, some employees claim to have received such correspondence by mistake. Employees at the trading giant are also wondering if the warnings are a harbinger of even more restrictive regulations to come.
