Chinese astronauts are ready for the first spacewalk as part of the construction of the Tiangong station. The national space facility, called Sky Palace, has been quietly in orbit for some time now.
It appears that China has deliberately not paid much media attention to the Tiangong space station under construction while moving quickly on schedule to complete the project. Now, however, the national media has given the world a brief overview.
First spacewalk around Tiangong
China’s state news agencies reported that the Chinese astronauts of the Shenzhou XV mission are currently aboard the Tiangong station preparing for the facility’s first ever spacewalk. The mission is scheduled for the “coming days”.
“Tiangong station is in stable condition. All elements required for the mission outside of the installation are already properly deployed. The Chinese Space Agency said the Chasing Our Dream team is ready for its first spacewalk.
Although few details of the upcoming mission have been revealed, sources close to the Tiangong project are talking about installing additional equipment on the station’s skin. It must be taken care of by two cosmonauts from a crew of three.
Spacewalk at Sky Palace - final preparations
In a brief, the China Manned Space Agency confirmed that mission captain Fei Junlong and two crew members - Deng Qingming and Zhang Lu - have spent more than 70 days in orbit, but they feel good and their morale is high before the walk. .
- Spacewalks are never easy. It requires a lot of courage, a lot of energy and high skill. However, I am confident that after many years of training, our astronauts will do an excellent job of this task,” said Pang Zhihao, a retired scientist from the China Academy of Space Technology.
