Significant tax changes in Dubai. From January 1, 2023, 30 percent will disappear. excise tax on alcohol, which made it very expensive. The authorities pursue one main goal in this.
One of the main complaints of tourists returning from Dubai was the very high prices. On the one hand, this is what you can expect when flying to an emirate known for its luxury, on the other hand, the high prices also applied to products that do not have to be so expensive and are often used by the average tourist.
Dubai cancels high excise tax on alcohol
With the beginning of the year, one of these problems will be solved. The authorities of the emirate decided to cancel 30 percent. alcohol tax. However, there is another change that will affect not only the price of alcohol, but also its availability, which was also not easy.
Together with the abolition of the excise tax, the previously mandatory fees for licenses for the sale of alcoholic beverages were also abolished. Obviously, this is done in order to increase the number of places where they can be bought. From the basic laws of the market, we can conclude that increased competition in this area will lead to further price reductions.
Dubai will become more attractive to foreigners
A number of changes that Dubai has recently introduced are also important in terms of making the emirate more attractive to foreigners living on its territory. This is a response to rapprochement with the West, which is being done to some extent by neighboring Qatar or Saudi Arabia.
Before the changes introduced since the beginning of the year, a pint of beer in a bar had to pay even $15 (over PLN 65), and a bottle of wine could not be bought for less than $100 (almost PLN 440).
