Some Carrefour franchises have turned into reading clubs to serve customers on Sundays. The network guarantees that it does not encourage such activities.
When the trade ban was tightened this spring, acknowledging that having a parcel drop-off point (so-called post office) in a store does not justify opening a store on Sunday, some merchants wondered how to bypass the ban and open the store after all. All the “dared ones” were immediately caught by the National Labor Inspectorate, and the media described bungled attempts to turn the store into a tourist information point or a library.
Reading clubs and books about the Dominican Republic
The Wiadomości Handlowe service claims that not all traders have lost hope for the official opening on Sunday. Journalists have learned that “readers’ clubs” already exist in more than a dozen stores in Poland - and this includes at least four chain stores. Such creations have been created, including at several Carrefour franchised locations, so there’s nothing stopping him from working on Sundays - as long as the franchisee or his family members are behind the counter (free of charge). The reading club is more convenient in that it does not limit the number of people who can work.
“The first reading club is already operating in the Carrefour Polska network. In one of the stores of this network in Warsaw, we saw a separate stand for the reader, with a stack of books on a variety of topics - from a tourist guide to the Dominican Republic and Haiti, through a management course, to a book by Lech Wales. Books in this store can be rented or exchanged, or you can sit at a table and immerse yourself in reading until late in the evening, ”we read on the site.
The headquarters of Carrefour Polska assures that it was not she who came up with the idea of opening on Sundays, and does not encourage franchisees to do so. According to the National Labor Inspectorate, opening shops on Sundays using the “readers’ club” method is a violation of the prohibition of trade provisions.
