Mattel will create a line of “space” toys in collaboration with Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
Mattel has signed a partnership agreement with SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk. It will result in a new toy line inspired by space travel and astronauts.
The new toys are intended primarily for younger age groups, but also for collectors. At the same time, the company said it would debut the space collection on Mattel’s Creations, a consumer-facing platform that often offers limited-edition exclusive toys and other items.
“As space exploration advances faster than ever, we’re excited to partner with SpaceX and help create endless space explorer play patterns in every child,” said Nick Karamanos, vice president of Mattel, who was quoted in the statement.
toy giant
Founded in 1945, Mattel is the world’s leading manufacturer of popular children’s toys, from Malibu Barbie to Hot Wheels Monster Trucks. The company, headquartered in El Segundo, California, is valued at approximately $7.96 billion.
Mattel boasts a number of iconic brands including Fisher-Price, American Girl, Thomas & Friends and other intellectual property owned or licensed in partnership with global entertainment companies.
Another space series.
The toy series that Mattel will create in collaboration with Elon Musk will not be the company’s first “space” toy line.
In 1965, the series “Barbie Miss Astronaut” was released. Based on the Project Mercury astronauts - the first Americans to go into space - Barbie, dressed in a silver suit, was supposed to inspire young girls to strive for the stars.
