In July, the General Administration of National Roads and Highways will put the last section of the S14 Expressway into service. The newly opened road will close the ring of high-speed routes around the Łódź agglomeration.
Łódź will be the first city in Poland with its own motorway and express ring. The last section of the S14 expressway, 16 kilometers long, will connect the Alexandrow-Łódzki and Emilia crossroads.
Connector A2 to S8
Recall that the Łódź Ring after completion will consist of the A1 motorway from the east, the A2 motorway from the north and the S8 expressway from the south. In the west of the city, the already built S14 expressway will close the ring. It will become the western bypass of Łódź, which will connect the A2 motorway and the S8 expressway. The newly opened road will reduce transit traffic in Łódź as well as provide easier access to the main roads for residents of the western part of the city, as well as Aleksanderów Łódźka, Zgierz, Pabianice and Konstantinow Łodzki.
Individual solutions
On the emerging section of S14, the road builders applied an unusual solution. This is an expressway junction with the Emilia junction with a large roundabout. This solution is to connect the S14 expressway to the A2 motorway and national road 91. Due to the sharp turn at the S14 roundabout entrance, speed limits have been introduced and vehicle flow has been reduced. in one lane using the so-called excluded surface and the so-called light wave. There were supposed to be two lanes, but permission to install a speed camera was not received, so they made one. There were fears of a repetition of the “tin turn”. Road workers report that if a speed camera can be installed in this place, there will be two lanes.
Last week, on the last section of the S14, the lanes separating the carriageway were cleaned up and the roundabout in Emilia was planted with greenery. The only thing left to do before the opening of the last section of S14 is to complete the formalities related to the permission to use the road. According to Dziennik Łódzki, the opening of the road for drivers is scheduled for Wednesday, July 19.
