The beginning of 2023 means that we already know the results of the past year in the automotive market. The leader during the year was Toyota, which dominated Polish sales.
The Automotive Market Research Institute already has information for us about what 2022 looked like in terms of the number of passenger car registrations.
In Poland, we closed the year with a slight loss. According to IBRM Samar, 6.03 percent. The decrease is not strong compared to the results we recorded earlier, but still significant, because the indicated percentage is almost 27,000 fewer registered cars. Compared to December 2021, we registered less than 2 percent. more cars
Tough year for new cars
The market for premium brands looks a little better. First, at the end of the year, it shows an increase of 3.5%. The December result in this market segment was almost 20 percent higher than in December. better than the year before.
– We started 2022 with a limited supply of cars. Disrupted supply chains, shortages of raw materials and components contributed not only to a significant increase in the waiting time for the ordered car, but also became another factor responsible for the price increase,” says Wojciech Drzewiecki, head of IBRM Samar. – Over time, the availability of some vehicles has improved, as we can see in the monthly statistics. The increase in supply was observed mainly in the premium car market, in the electric vehicle segment, wherever higher margins could be obtained. Therefore, against the backdrop of declining sales volumes, there are likely to be rather optimistic signals from manufacturers, indicating a relatively high level of revenue.
What’s next in 2023?
However, the slight upward trend observed in recent months does not give grounds for optimism, experts write. The future looks pretty grey. The ongoing conflict beyond our eastern border has a negative impact not only on consumer sentiment, but also on the availability of raw materials and components, which further translates into their high prices, which leads to the continuation of the upward trend in prices for individual models. On the positive side, growth has slowed down significantly. On the other hand, although it is slower, prices are still rising. This type of trend never sells.
“It can be assumed that during the year there will be an improvement in the availability of components, manufacturers will find alternative sources of supply of raw materials, but this does not mean that all models and their modifications will be available without problems. Knowing that the economic situation is deteriorating, which translates into greater reluctance to buy, as evidenced by the limited number of new orders, manufacturers will focus on high-margin models and those whose emissions will be below the levels set by the legislator. The rest will still be available. The situation may change if the burning conflict weakens or goes out. Whether this will happen is still difficult to predict, Wojciech Drzewiecki comments.
What does the ranking look like at the end of 2022?
The leader, as expected (it could not have been otherwise), was Toyota. Toyota dominates in all provinces. The county map is also highlighted in red. The model most often chosen by buyers is the Toyota Corolla, although here, oddly enough, in several provinces (data as of the end of November), the Kia Sportage and Dacia Duster took first place in one.
In the second position in the ranking we have Skoda and the third Kia. In the top ten, in addition to the listed brands, there are also two representatives of the VW group (Volkswagen and Audi), another Korean brand - Hyundai, BMW, Mercedes, Dacia and Ford.
It is important to note that the top ten also included 3 brands from the premium group. Not all leading brands recorded a positive result. In the red so far 5 out of 10, including the leader - Toyota.
