The Austrian government is debating whether the vehicles of drivers who speed excessively should be confiscated. This is supposed to be a whip against road pirates and people who organize illegal races.
“The one who no longer has a car can no longer exceed the speed limit. That’s why this measure is so successful in other countries - because it hits the sore spots and protects the public, ”said Austrian Transport Minister Leonora Gewessler, quoted by Moto.pl.
Vehicle confiscation for speeding
Under the new rules, road pirates will lose their cars for speeding over 60 km/h in populated areas (so we are talking about driving at a speed of at least 110 km/h in the city) and 70 km/h. /h on other roads. However, in this case, we are talking “only” about preliminary confiscation. Too fast drivers said goodbye to their cars for two weeks.
Whoever does not learn from such a lesson and commit such an offense again will lose the car forever. This also applies to persons exceeding the speed limit by 70 km/h and 80 km/h respectively – in this case for the first time, and not in case of relapse.
