Cars with the Moskvich logo will again appear on the roads of Russia. However, these will not be built by local engineers.
The position of the automotive industry in Russia is truly amazing. Western manufacturers, for obvious reasons, do not want to work in this country and leave the Russian market. The authorities there simply seize their estates and factories. That’s what happened to Reno.
“At the end of May, the Moscow Renault plant, where until now, for example. Renault Duster offered locally became the property of the city of Moscow. Even then, the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, said that the acquired plant would continue to produce cars, according to Moto Interia.
The name Moskvich has been known since 1930.
The Poles may associate certain models of this company, for example, Aleko of the late 80s. The last car called Moskvich rolled off the assembly line in 2001.
Now Muscovite is back. The first copies should be handed over to customers this year, but those who think that this is a rapidly implemented initiative of Russian engineers are mistaken. The 2022 Moskvich will just be a Chinese car with a different badge. There will be two models. Moskvich 3 will be a local copy of the compact Chinese car JAC JS4, and Moskvich 3e will be JAC iEVS4.
The first is a compact crossover with a length of 4.41 m. Gasoline engines will be under the hood. The first has a volume of 1.6 and a power of 109 hp. (without turbo), and the second - 1.5 and turbo, thanks to which it develops 150 hp. The transmission can be a six-speed “mechanics” or a CVT continuously variable transmission.
Moskvich and Isera
Russia’s plans are ambitious. 600 units are expected to hit the roads this year. The assembly will probably take place in the delivery system of finished components from China. The full potential of the plant should be revealed in 2024, and then the lineup will be replenished with new models.
Many are looking for similarities in the situation with Isera and Moskvich and note that although both initiatives are focused on Chinese partners, Isera is in its infancy, and Moskvich will appear on the market any day. However, it is worth noting that the Russians did not have to build a plant from scratch, but simply adopted a ready-made and working one.
