Not long destined to bear the proud title of “grandfather”: a poignant story about a Ukrainian soldier who died in Bakhmut

In Kyiv, they said goodbye to 44-year-old defender Rostislav Slugotsky. His life was cut short while performing a combat mission in the Donetsk region, the territory of which continues to be liberated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Rostislav comes from the Vinnitsa region. At the end of the 9th grade, he studied at the Chernyatinsky technical school as a livestock specialist-beekeeper, worked at a local collective farm in his specialty, - informs the FB-community “My Lipovets”. - He served in military service from 1998 to 2000 in Kamenetz-Podolsk and continued to serve in the Kiev Military Lyceum named after Ivan Bohun, where he met his future wife Oksana on his life path. With her in marriage, they gave birth and raised a daughter, Daria, and a son, Valentin. Rostislav lived and worked with his family in Kyiv, engaged in the construction and repair of cars. In his short life, he built a house, planted a garden, did not forget his relatives and friends.

From the first months of the war, Rostislav Slugotsky volunteered for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and, thanks to his golden hands and extraordinary thinking, was assigned to a separate consolidated airmobile group of the CEP with the rank of staff sergeant.

Participated in the liberation operation of the Kharkov region near the city of Izyum. Later he continued to destroy the enemy in defensive and offensive operations on Bakhmut, for which he was awarded the distinction of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “For Exemplary Service”. At the same time he became a grandfather, which he was sincerely proud of. However, it was not destined to wear this proud title for a long time, because when performing the next combat mission, together with two of his brothers, on 07/01/2023. died near the village of Bogdanovka on the northern outskirts of Bakhmut, Donetsk region. He was a real husband, a wise adviser, but the war left relatives without a son, father, beloved husband, brother, godfather, grandfather … “
