Instead of a handshake, a blow to the jaw: the duel for “gold” between karatekas from Armenia and Azerbaijan ended in a scandal (video)

The women’s final of the Batumi Open international karate tournament held in Georgia ended in a scandal.

The representative of Azerbaijan, Alika Semikhova (pictured in the header) and a karateka from Armenia, whose name was not disclosed, fought for the “gold” of the competition. The Azerbaijani won with a score of 2:0. After that, the judge brought the athletes for a traditional handshake, Semikhova extended her hands, and in response received a blow to the jaw from the Armenian.

“Despite her inadequate actions, I demonstrated my culture as an Azerbaijani woman and athlete. We are a victorious country and nation. I am proud that I am Azerbaijani”, commented on the incident Alika Semikhova on the air of “Baku.TV”.

As for the karateka from Armenia, after the award she was disqualified and deprived of her silver medal.

Unfortunately, the strife between Azerbaijan and Armenia is being transferred to sports arenas. Suffice it to recall how in April 2023, at the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championships in Yerevan, one of the spectators tore the flag of Azerbaijan from the flag and set it on fire. Later, a man with a flag tried to run out of the stage from behind the back door, but the flag was taken away from the hooligan and returned to the Azerbaijanis.

Earlier reported that the boxer knocked out the opponent in the first seconds of the fight instead of greeting.
