“Sasha, excuse me - I didn’t save you”: a poignant story about a Ukrainian defender who has known the hell of war since 2014

53-year-old buried in Pogrebishche, Vinnytsia region defender Oleksandr Golovatyuk. The chief sergeant of a self-propelled artillery platoon died in battle on June 9, 2023 near the village of Umanskoe, Donetsk region. The commander said during the farewell ceremony that Alexander Golovatyuk went to war again on February 25.

“Each person has his own history, but not every person is able to write his history into the history of his people, into the history of our state! Sasha wrote in red ink, wrote with his blood - he gave his life … Now there is a battle at the front! Every minute the command leaves: “Fire!!! Fire! Fire!!!” Sasha, you always answered me with this command: “Done!” Let this day become a day of remembrance, a day of our hatred for the enemy who has come to our land. Sasha, I’m sorry - I didn’t save you…“

After parting, the coffin with the ashes of the Hero was given ground under volleys of mourning salute and the Anthem of Ukraine.
