Another massacre with the use of firearms took place in the United States. In Richmond, Virginia, a 19-year-old boy opened fire on participants and guests at a graduation ceremony. As a result, an 18-year-old graduate and his 36-year-old stepfather were killed. Another five people received gunshot wounds and are in the hospital. A nine-year-old girl was also injured. She was hit by a car when panic began after the first shots.
On the morning of June 7 Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards told reporters that the suspect had been arrested. He did not name the shooter. It is known that this is a 19-year-old local resident. The police came home after receiving information that he had a conflict with the deceased graduate.
CNN reports that the suspect opened fire at the end of the official part of the event. Graduation ceremony attendees and guests gathered outside the local theater across the street from the school for family photos. The theater is located at the entrance to Monroe Park.
“There were hundreds of our citizens. Many were with small children. Everyone was sure that this was a safe, beautiful place … It’s terrible that someone decided to bring weapons and open fire in order to raise some old scores”, - said Rick Edwards.
This is the 279th mass shooting in a public place in the US since the beginning of this year.
