Electricity tariffs will increase: how much will a kilowatt-hour cost

Must read

In Ukraine, until the end of the heating season, the government decided not to raise electricity tariffs. But already in May, electricity prices may increase.

The Ministry of Energy has already confirmed that they are considering the possibility of revising tariffs.

Tariff increase plans were also confirmed by Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko. He noted that he could not yet name a possible tariff after the revision, but added that this would make it possible to find funds for the restoration of the energy system, writes OBOZREVATEL.

“The options voiced in the media are being considered. But that doesn’t mean it will. The issue is complex, it is discussed, there are miscalculations, there are assessments. You yourself understand that 1.44 UAH per kWh does not cover the costs, does not even cover the costs of delivering electricity to the end consumer. But it is necessary to cover the generation and restoration of the energy system,” - quotes the resource of the words of the representative of the government.

Even earlier, Oleg Popenko, an expert on housing and communal services, announced plans to increase the cost of electricity by about 30-40%. According to him, the cost of electricity will be about UAH 2.3-2.5 per kWh.
Now, when consuming up to 250 kWh, Ukrainians pay UAH 1.44 per kWh for current.

On average, a Ukrainian family, according to the latest data from the NEURC, consumes about 165 kWh of current per month. With the current tariff, this is 237.6 UAH. per month. And after a possible rise in price, the monthly payment for electricity will increase to UAH 379.5-412.5.

For vulnerable categories, in case of an increase, it is proposed to increase the amount of the allowance.

Some experts suggest maintaining two tariffs for electricity, depending on the volume of consumption - the more the family spends, the more they pay.

The publication writes that, according to Ukrenergo, almost $1 billion will be needed this year to restore and protect Ukrenergo’s high-voltage network alone.

Therefore, due to the increase in tariffs, it is impossible to obtain funds for the complete restoration of the network, but without such an inflow of funds it is also impossible to do.

As OBOZREVATEL was told in the Cabinet of Ministers, it will take about 2 years to restore the energy system, and it will take about 5 years to build a new system. Part of the recovery is also thanks to international partners.

Director of the Center for Energy Research Oleksandr Kharchenko explained that Ukraine will not restore the energy system earlier.

“It will be a different energy system, differently configured, much more carbon neutral, more environmentally friendly”- reports the publication of the words of the expert.

Earlier it was reported about a two-stage increase in tariffs for centralized water supply and centralized drainage.
