A year ago, Viktor Pogrebinsky, a political strategist close to Putin’s godfather, was suspected of treason, and this year another “Medvedchuk’s political scientist” — Alexander Lazarev — was reported on suspicion.
According to the SBU, the Ukrainian intelligence service has collected evidence on a pro-Kremlin political scientist who is now hiding in Crimea.
“Even before the start of the full-scale invasion, the figurant was part of the pool of public pseudo-experts who worked for Medvedchuk, Muraev and Shariy. Lazarev himself was directly involved in the “promotion” of the media images of the Kremlin’s henchmen and helped them in promoting enemy narratives in the information space. To do this, he was a frequent “guest” on the air of the sub-sanctioned channels “Nash”, “Zik”, “NewsOne”, “112” and “Russia Today”. In his comments, he repeatedly justified Moscow’s aggressive policy and called the fighting in eastern Ukraine a “civil war.”- the message says.
After the start of a large-scale invasion in February 2022, he secretly went abroad, then arrived in the territory of the occupied Crimea and joined the inner circle of “Gauleiter” Aksyonov
Lazarev was informed of the suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treachery), as well as under Part 1 of Art. 161 (violation of the equality of citizens depending on their race, nationality, regional affiliation, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds).
The Office of the Prosecutor General added that the suspect, in his publications and speeches, spread Russian narratives about Nazism in Ukraine, promoted ideas aimed at discrediting the independence of our state, and also convinced his audience of the fallacy of Ukraine’s foreign policy, focused on European integration.
“By his actions, the political scientist damaged the sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability and information security of Ukraine, assisting Russian representatives in carrying out explosive activities against Ukraine in the information sphere”added to OG.
Recall that recently the SBU showed a hotel in the Lviv region, which was illegally built by Medvedchuk’s wife Oksana Marchenko. The property was seized by the court.
