He leaked important information to the Wagnerites: a traitor was detained in Zhytomyr

Counterintelligence of the Security Service detained another Russian agent, this time as a result of a special operation in the Zhytomyr region.

The perpetrator turned out to be a former deputy commander of one of the Ukrainian military units, who retired in the early 1990s, the security service said.

It is established that in July last year, the intelligence unit of the Russian military group Wagner attracted him to tacit cooperation.

According to the investigation, the enemy recruited remotely through the banned social network VKontakte, which was actively used by the man.

At the direction of the aggressor, he collected intelligence on the movement of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and was also interested in the personal data of the current command staff of the Ukrainian troops in the region.

In addition, he recorded the coordinates of street video surveillance systems that are located near the buildings of state authorities and law enforcement agencies.

Relevant information was required by the enemy for planning and possible sabotage in the city.

The traitor transmitted the information received to the “Wagnerites” through the exhausted channels of electronic communication in the form of photographs of maps with marks.

The counterintelligence officers of the SBU gradually documented the criminal actions of the Russian agent and detained him on the eve of his attempt to escape abroad.

During a search at the place of residence of the detainee, a laptop, mobile phone and maps of the region were found, which he used in explosive activities.

On the basis of the collected array of evidence, the SBU investigators informed the enemy’s henchman about the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).

The court chose him a measure of restraint in the form of detention. An investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

According to the Zhytomyr regional prosecutor’s office, the detainee is a native of Kherson, now lives in Zhytomyr.

The traitor showed particular activity during September-October 2022. On the advice of a Russian curator, he used the call sign “Snarov” to conceal and conceal his criminal activities.

The commission of a crime is punishable by imprisonment for a period of fifteen years or life imprisonment, for confiscation of property.
