Near Bakhmut, where fierce fighting has been going on for a month, a volunteer from New Zealand found a Ukrainian soldier wounded in the back in the basement of one of the destroyed houses. warrior Alexei Gordeevwho was listed as missing.
During one of the battles, Alexei was captured. He, along with his comrades, was thrown into the basement in the courtyard of the village, where he was kept virtually without food and water for a month and a half. Gordeev had two severe shrapnel wounds. One fragment stuck in the leg, and the other in the back. The warrior was almost unable to move and most of the time lay next to fellow soldiers who were equally wounded or died from wounds. Aleksey says that the occupiers practically did not feed the prisoners, and he would not have survived if one of the Russian soldiers had not fed him. But more often I had to eat bread crumbs from the ground and drink water from puddles. One day, thirsty, Gordeev took a few sips of antifreeze from the heater and almost got poisoned.
When the Armed Forces of Ukraine began to liberate the village where the prisoners were kept, the Russians fled. During the fighting, according to Gordeev, he heard the Ukrainian language of our soldiers upstairs. But he didn’t have the strength to call for help. The remaining survivors of the basement prisoners (there were very few of them) were in an even more serious condition.

Gordeev and his brothers were found during the cleansing of the village. A volunteer from New Zealand went down to check the basement and saw the bodies of dead warriors on the ground. And when he was about to go up to tell about the terrible find, he heard a rustle.
Alexei Gordeev was overjoyed when he heard English and saw the stripe on the fighter’s uniform. “Oh New Zealand! New Zealand!” - repeated the rescued.
Aleksey Gordeev was placed in a hospital in the Dnieper, where he will be treated for dystrophy. In captivity, the fighter lost 40 kilograms and now weighs only 42 kilograms. Alexei has already been visited by his father - a musician, a member of one of the compositions of the popular Kharkov rock band “Different People”, the former director of the cult Russian group “Korol i Shut”, producer, organizer of the festival “Ukraine: take off together!” Alexander Gordeeva native of the Artemovsky district (Artemovsk - the former name of Bakhmut - Auth.).
“Our prayers are closer to God, because our guys are warriors of light! Sincere gratitude to everyone who prayed, searched, supported and helped, was there for all these endless months and a half. Together we found our Cossack! Glory to the heroes!“- the father of the warrior wrote on his page on the social network.
Editor-in-Chief of Ostrov, Sergey Garmash on Facebook, he told the details of Alexei’s captivity:
“I haven’t seen this yet. Except perhaps in the Soviet newsreel about the dismissal of Auschwitz. Extreme exhaustion. Just a living skeleton. Ours repulsed the hostile position and found him. A fighter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he was in captivity for two months, in the basement. They didn’t feed. If not for one Russian soldier, out of regret, sharing his rations with him, he would have died of starvation. When in the hospital we washed him before resuscitation, he was literally cold. Several of his comrades, also captured, died of wounds and starvation.
Alex is lucky. He was fired. “They gave me a compote,” he repeated all the time, smiling. “Compotic” was a dream in a two-month hunger and cold basement. Collecting his things for evacuation, I saw documents and photos. 27 years. Nice guy with a pretty girl.

Questions to the Russians: why keep people in the basement, without food and water, if you do not use them in any way? In this state, they are of no use, either for work or for anything else. But they could be changed to your own. Save your life. After all, your mothers are also waiting for sons … What’s the point? Is this some kind of wild experiment? Just group sadism?
After the completion of the initial course, the treatment of Alexei Gordeev will be transferred to the capital’s hospital.
