No worse than overseas - among the Ukrainian alternatives to well-known superfoods is millet. “From such a simple and very useful cereal as millet, you can cook not only cereals.“, - convinces food blogger Sonya Kanlay. And you can serve meatballs with sour cream, Greek yogurt or your favorite sauce.
Ingredients:
a glass of millet (200 g)
500 ml water (2.5 cups)
1 egg
2 tbsp. spoons of cheese with aromatic herbs and garlic
salt, pepper to taste
flour 2-3 tbsp. frying spoons
spinach 2 handfuls or frozen 100 g
butter 20 g for frying spinach
vegetable oil + 20 g butter for frying meatballs
How to cook:
Boil millet in boiling salted water for 13-15 minutes, wrap in a towel and let it brew for 1.5 hours. To the pan add 1 tbsp. a spoonful of butter and half a glass of water, put the spinach, salt, cover and simmer for 2-3 minutes. Add the spinach to the porridge and mix well with a fork, add the egg and mix again. Then the cheese - and mix again. Pour the flour into a plate, form a meatball with wet hands, roll in flour and fry in a pan on both sides until golden brown.
Recall the recipe for a real Ukrainian skit according to my grandmother’s recipe.
