After the currant bushes have been processed and baited, the best time comes in the fall to plant new bushes of these berries. How to do this so that the seedlings take root well, knows owner from Vinnitsa region Stepan Kobilnik:
“It is best to plant currants after the first light frost. It could be the end of September or the beginning of October. Currants are planted in a hole 30-40 cm deep and 40-50 cm wide, so that the root fits freely in it. Then it is lightly sprinkled with earth, watered and again covered with a layer of soil.
I do not advise covering currants for the winter, because these bushes are quite frost-resistant.
And in order to plant bushes, I cut several cuttings 15 centimeters long from a healthy bush. They can be placed in water to sprout roots, or immediately planted in the ground. Do it at a 45 degree angle. This way the plant grows better.
Another way is to gently bend a two-year-old healthy branch of a growing bush to the ground, dig a hole 10-12 cm deep under it and dip the middle part into it. Next fall there will be a full-fledged seedling with a powerful root system and thick 2-3 branches.
