Such an opinion in an interview with RBC-Ukraine was expressed by the director of the New Geopolitics Research Network Mikhail Samus.
“In fact, the situation for the Russians is very negative, since Ukraine has begun to effectively influence their ammunition depots, artillery, command posts, logistics, etc. with HIMARS multiple rocket launchers. They began to lose the initiative in the Donbass. And in the south they have a situation where their grouping in the Krivoy Rog and Kherson directions, on the western bank of the Dnieper, is actually already surrounded, their bridges have been destroyed there, if they cannot effectively carry out logistics, supply personnel and ammunition, then in fact they are already surrounded. They have a way out: either give up, or continue to come up with something, ” the expert explained.
Samus noted that now in the Kherson region, the Russians are in a very difficult situation. They are trying to send reinforcements there, trying to prepare for the offensive until they announce a goodwill gesture, as they did with Zmein, as well as with Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
He believes that the Russians still will not succeed.
“This is already such a chaotic attempt, ill-conceived. This is the emotional reaction of the Russian generals to the situation: “I’m not interested in how you will resolve this issue, but if you leave Kherson and this area, then I will shoot you and destroy you.” They don’t know what to do, because they don’t have additional forces anymore.”he says.
Samus added that this is why the Russian command is even withdrawing troops from Donbass, despite the fact that there is a political task from Putin - to occupy Donbass at any cost.
“They did not cope with this task, but now they are forced to shift their forces to the Kherson direction, because there is generally a security situation there and they are trying to somehow get out of this situation. But I think that the result will be even worse, because even more Russian troops will be captured and destroyed,” the expert concluded.
Recall that Austrian analyst Tom Cooper also believes that the Russians will not have enough strength to break through Ukrainian positions in the south and move forward. In his opinion, there is no logic in the offensive that the invaders are preparing in the Kherson region. He believes that this is Putin’s political decision, not the military strategy of his generals.
