The latest iPhone 15 leak confirms that Apple phones are likely to get a USB-C connector this year. After a long war with the European Union, the American company has finally laid down its arms and adapted to the rest of the world.

We have the first confirmation that the iPhone 15 Pro will feature a USB-C connector for phone charging. This is the first physical confirmation of the company’s earlier claims, which have remained rather cryptic.

iPhone 15 Pro with USB-C in new leaks

It all started with a leak of CAD files showing the exact dimensions of the new iPhone 15 Pro. Apple sends these files in advance for the needs of many companies involved in the manufacture of cases and other accessories, for example.

One user placed the USB-C connector in the cutout at the bottom of the phone and said it fits perfectly. He was answered by one of Apple’s industry-recognized sources of information using the pseudonym Unknownz21.

- This is cute. Anyway, here’s a real close-up photo of USB-C on the iPhone 15 Pro. There is no need for imagination or 3D graphics rendering,” he commented.

If the photo is genuine, then this is the first confirmation of Apple’s pioneering move. Thus, the company will in any case be ahead of the changes that the EU law will impose on it.

Apple forced to switch to USB-C - quarreled with the EU

At the end of last year, anonymous whistleblowers reported that the transition to a USB-C port could happen as early as 2023, i.e. at the premiere of the iPhone 15. It is worth recalling that the new EU law obliges companies to implement the solution only from 2024.

Interestingly, Apple has previously (and voluntarily) changed the Lightning port to USB-C on many other devices. This includes eg. o Mac computers, multiple versions of iPads, and manufacturer’s accessories.

However, until now there has also been a fear that Apple will again force users to innovate - as was the case with the audio jack connector. Theoretically, the company could completely abandon wired charging and force users to use only inductive charging.
