The Polish runner made an impression at the World Championships. Opponents were shocked

Must read

Mateusz Borkowski did a great job with his rivals in the men’s 800 meters. The tactics of the representative of Poland worked great, and as a result, he finished the qualification in first place. The fate of Philip Ostrovsky hung in the balance for a long time.

Mateusz Borkowski lived up to the expectations of Polish fans and experts in the men’s 800m. Byalo-Chervoniy surprised his rivals and, thanks to his excellent strategy, advanced to the semi-finals from the first place.

Excellent result of Mateusz Borkowski at the World Championships

It took a long time to sum up all the results in this men’s competition, because more than 60 athletes took part in the qualification, the starts of which were divided into seven series. We waited for the Pole’s performance until the second, because it was then that Mateusz Borkowski appeared on the sixth track.

Although our compatriot started quite well, immediately after the run to the center, the opponent left him a little behind. For a long time Borkowski ran sixth. The athlete, born in 1997, kept to this position, but at some point he moved inside and overtook several rivals, then two more. Finally, he posted a very good time of 1:45.40 which qualified him for the semi-finals from first place.

“This tartan is very stiff and fast, which helps the runners. I don’t know how much it gives, but the rebound comfort is excellent,” Borkowski told TVP Sport. - Today I felt double stress, because I really wanted to reach the semi-finals. I’m in good shape. The race was formed in my opinion, that was the strategy. I am very pleased with this launch. I saw a gap, I jumped two positions and it helped me to finish easier,” the runner explained.

The fate of Philip Ostrovsky hung in the balance

Filip Ostrowski started fourth out of seven races, starting from one of the middle tracks. He started the same way as his colleague. At that moment, when the rest of the athletes were crushing each other, our compatriot kept aloof from his rivals. He was running fifth about halfway through, but went out of bounds on the last straight. Unfortunately, he did not manage to finish third, so he did not receive a direct promotion.

With a time of 1:45.76, he had to wait for a decision among the so-called “lucky losers.” After the run, he was third in the small table and literally hung by a thread. In order to win promotion, he had to rely on the fact that in the remaining three laps in the 800 meters, none of the fourth-placed competitors would score more than him.
