Polish runners Sofia Ennawi, Aleksandra Plocinska and Eliza Megger failed to reach the top six in the 1500m. Therefore, we will not see either whites or reds in the semi-finals.
Polish middle distance runners started on the first day of the World Championships in Budapest. A total of 56 runners participated in the four quarter-finals, including three Poles: Sofia Ennaui, Aleksandra Plocinska and Eliza Megger. In each race, the top six advanced to the semi-finals. The Poles knew that the first of these had the greatest potential. All because of her memorable performance at the European Championships in Munich, when she won the bronze medal. Unfortunately, it turned out that this time the bar for the representatives of the Vistula country was set too high, and each of them dropped out.
Polish runners without reaching the semi-finals
Sofia Ennaui started in the first heat and although she was in the lead most of the time, it was the last lap that proved decisive for her. The Moroccan-born Polish representative crashed and finished in tenth place with a time of 4:06.93. She was joined, among other things, by the famous and legendary multiple medalist of the World Championships and the Olympic Games Sifan Hassan, who turned out to be the best with a score of 4:02.92.
Alexandra Plocinska performed well in the second race. Most of the time she was in the lead, but like Sophia Ennaui, the finish was decisive for her. She did not have enough strength to reach the semi-finals. Despite this, she managed to break her personal best, finishing in a time of 4:06.18, but this only gave her ninth place. Three-time world record holder Faith Kipyegon took first place in 4:02.62. Elisa Megger, on the other hand, only finished her race in eleventh place with a time of 4:09.22.
