Champion of Ukraine in swimming Mikhail Romanchuk is dissatisfied with the fact that his compatriots will not be able to compete with athletes from Russia and Belarus. His opinion is highly controversial.
When it seemed that Ukraine was a monolith in opposition to the participation of Russians and Belarusians in international competitions, this is not at all the case. A number of decisions have already been made regarding the impossibility for Ukrainian athletes to compete where Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed. All sports federations of Ukraine must comply with the new regulations under the threat of delegation. It is already known that they will be able to compete only where there are no athletes from countries ruled by Putin and Lukashenko.
Ukrainian swimmer outraged by the inability to compete with Russians and Belarusians
Everything seemed to be clear. The Ukrainians had to unanimously support this decision in the light of the war that their national Russians, supported by the Belarusians, started. Meanwhile, Ukrainian swimmer Mikhail Romanchuk expressed a different opinion on this matter.
In an interview with the Swedish Press Agency, he admitted that he thought a lot about this issue and did not like the final decision. In his opinion, the needs of Ukrainian athletes were ignored and their opinions were not asked. “Obviously we want to compete with everyone. For this, we are athletes, ”said the swimmer.
Mikhail Romanchuk: Ukraine will give Russia a penalty
It doesn’t end there. In his opinion, the refusal of Ukrainians from sports rivalry with Russians and Belarusians means a phantom, which gives a field to Russia and local propaganda.
The Tennis Federation of Ukraine said that the lack of competition, including with the Russians, would be the end for Ukrainian tennis - Romanchuk supports this opinion. He published an entry on Twitter in which he admitted that, in his opinion, such decisions would lead to the collapse or even decrease in the level of Ukrainian sports.
