The former best tennis player in the world, Martina Navratilova, who at the beginning of the year reported a double form of cancer, was able to recover from a serious illness.
The legendary athlete announced this in the program of the famous journalist Piers Morgan, who was recently given a scandalous interview by the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.
“After I was diagnosed, I had a panic attack that didn’t go away for three days, – admitted Martina Navratilova. - I really thought I might not see next Christmas. True, then the doctors said that cancer can be cured, and we started radiation therapy. During the procedures, to support me, the doctors played Elton John’s song I’m still standing (“I’m still standing”), which he dedicated to me at a concert in Paris during Roland Garros in the 80s. And I had to hold back my tears so as not to show that I feel sorry for myself.
I love to eat and the lack of food was the hardest part of the whole treatment. I lost 15 pounds (almost 7 kg. - Auth.) not because she wanted to, but because she simply could not get enough food. The radiation affects your throat and mouth, which starts to close - I couldn’t even yawn or sneeze. At the same time, I had only three weeks of proton therapy, while the normal course is seven weeks.
I still don’t feel very well, but it’s getting better every day. I’m finally starting to get a taste of things.”
Note that during her career, Navratilova won 59 Grand Slam tournaments - 18 in singles and 31 in doubles. Since 2014, Martina has been married to Yulia Lemigova, former Vice-Miss of the USSR, with whom she planned to adopt a child, but due to the disease returning (once, in 2010, Martina had already successfully overcome breast cancer), the couple decided to abandon this idea.
Earlier reported that the legendary football coach Miroslav Blazhevich, who did not let the Ukrainian team into the World Cup, died of cancer.
