For several weeks, Marek Papshun has been mentioned in the media as one of the candidates for the post of head coach of the Polish national team. However, Wojciech Cygan admitted why Cesar Kulesza ultimately did not take him into account. The reasons are at least interesting.
When it became clear that there was no chance that Czesław Mihniewicz would remain the coach of the Polish national team in 2023, the so-called name exchange began. One of the most notable in the media reports was coach Rakova Częstochowa. Marek Papshun, after all, we are talking about him, was considered for the position of the White-Reds coach, but in the end he was not chosen for it. Why? Wojciech Gygan spoke about why Caesar Kulesha decided this way and not otherwise.
Marek Papshun feels great in Rakov-Czestochowa
There is no doubt that Papshun is currently considered the best professional in the entire Ekstraklasa, especially if only the Poles are considered. Therefore, whenever the topic of finding a new coach comes up, his name appears in speculation almost automatically. This is natural, since with Rakov he achieves excellent results. Currently, Medaliki are leading the Ekstraklasa and aiming to win the Polish championship.
The work of this coach, of course, is appreciated in the PZPN. So why didn’t the president of our federation choose Papshun? As it turned out, there were two reasons.
Why didn’t Cesar Kulesha choose Marek Papshun?
- From the very beginning it was clear that Caesar Kulesha did not want to weaken such a project as Rakov. In addition, he did not want to take on a coach with an important contract, Wojciech Cygan explained in the Ekstraklas Studio program, who also holds the post of vice president of the Polish Football Association.
However, Papshun’s contract with the Medalists expires at the end of the current season. Question: what’s next? – Michal Swierczewski (owner of the club – ed. note) and the coach are in constant contact. The most important thing is that the start in the spring should be productive in order to maintain an advantage over Legia Warszawa.
