Wielka Krokiew in Zakopane was not used for some time due to an accident. After some time, like every year, the Ski Jumping World Cup will be held here. The PZN Secretary spoke about the state of the most popular ski jump in Poland.
The problem in Wielka Krokiew arose due to the fact that the tension wheel on the chairlift broke. The most important thing in this matter is that this is the only way to transport jumpers from the ski jump to the top of the hill, so until the breakdown is fixed, it is impossible to hold any competitions in Zakopane. Unfortunately, the issue has not yet been resolved and there are fears that next year’s World Cup competitions may not take place there at all.
Accident on Wielka Krokiew. PZN is looking for solutions
Some time ago, the Polish Ski Association ordered parts from a French company to fix a defect in the Wielka Krokiew. Unfortunately, the company did not fulfill its obligations, and the assembly of new elements was supposed to take place in mid-December, which would mean a race against time.
Interestingly, the organizers also considered an alternative, which assumed that the jumpers would get to the top of the hill by car. Another solution would be to weld an old wheel that will only be used for the duration of the competition.
PZN Secretary General reassures: There are no contraindications to the competition
The General Secretary of the Polish Ski Association reassured the fans, assuring them that things were going well with the lift.
– Both the Central Sports Center in Zakopane and the Ministry of Sports and Tourism guarantee that there are no contraindications for holding World Cup competitions on Wielka Krokiew. According to these assurances, the lift should be launched in mid-December, Jan Winkel told skijumping.pl.
The construction of the new lift should start in 2023-2024 and will cost PLN 15 million.
