Why Groysman’s party is sinking: the main reasons for the failed strategy of the ex-premier in the Vinnitsa region

Must read

Due to the apparent degradation of the political force of the former official, more and more immersed in intrigues in the backyard of Ukrainian top politics. A high-profile political scandal continues in the Vinnitsa region, caused by the usurpation of power by the associates of the former prime minister. Thus, Groisman’s Ukrainian Strategy (USG) launched a new war against its opponents and plunged into land conflicts.

Recall that in the fall of 2020, Groysman’s party in the Vinnytsia region should celebrate a victory in the local elections. Then the “Strategy” of the former official scored 54% each in the city and in the region, in 63 UTCs the “strategists” managed to lead 30 of their chairmen of the united communities to victory (or almost 50% of their total number). Representatives of Poroshenko ended up in the second city, who then won 17% of the votes in the struggle for the regional council, 14 - for the Vinnitsa city UTC and received certain positions in other UTCs. That is, almost all power at the regional level was in the hands of Groisman’s associates.

Such a triumph in the Vinnitsa region, which allowed the ex-official to call himself “the owner of the region”, pretty much fueled his ambitions. Thus, in numerous interviews, Groysman convinced the media and the public that his party was preparing for possible early elections to the Verkhovna Rada, after which he did not rule out his return to supreme power. At the same time, ruthless criticism of Zelensky’s party, which Groysman’s associates significantly moved in the Vinnitsa region, became Groysman’s main political strategy after the elections.

At the same time, we recall that the beginning of the activities of the USG in the Vinnitsa Regional Council began with a scandal: the main ally of Groysman in the Vinnitsa region, the former head of the Regional State Administration Valery Korovoy made a demonstrative demarche after the first session, drawing up the mandate of the deputy of the regional council. On the sidelines of the regional council, it was then reported that this happened because Korovoi did not receive the position of head of the regional council promised by Groysman.

As you know, this is not the first and last time that the head of the USG let down his associates.

In particular, news about a serious conflict between Groysman and the mayor of Vinnitsa has recently begun to appear in the Vinnitsa political establishment. Sergey Morgunov. Previously, it became known that the formal cause of this conflict was a disputed land plot, which Groysman and his close associate in the position of mayor of the regional center did not seem to share.

But in fact, as the entourage close to Morgunov confirms, the reason for this war “is the serious fatigue of the Vinnitsa team of Groysman from Groysman himself.” In particular, and because of the strange disappearance of the ex-premier from public space after the start of Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine.

The mayor’s office of Vinnitsa also unofficially notes that they did not add warmth to the relationship between the mayor and Groysman and the additional secret burden that the head of the USG threw on Morgunov - to mobilize the so-called “ownerless” or alien leaders of the UTC of Vinnitsa region into his state. The main reason is that after decentralization, it was the heads of local communities who retained real power and financial leverage.

In addition, the USG leadership says that Groysman has recently moved into a certain “virtual” state of political presence in regional and state politics, and it is Morgunov and other strategists from the ex-official’s team who have to bear the brunt in public.

Recall that earlier sociologists confirmed a new trend in Ukrainian politics during the war. As top experts note, the war literally turned the political cards in Ukraine upside down and put an end to many promising politicians in Ukraine. In this vein, the names of the once influential top politicians are called - Yatsenyuk, Razumkov, Yulia Tymoshenko and others.

Groysman can also be added to this list. Obviously, despite the “virtuality” of the presence, the head of the USG in the Vinnytsia region is still remembered due to the activity of Morgunov, but the ambitions have narrowed significantly: from talk about a potential premiership in early 2021 and hopes for their own faction in parliament to a desperate struggle for the loyalty of individual heads The UTC is not even in the key region of the country (de facto - in the political backyard of the domestic political beau monde).

Another lost battle of Groysman is constant feuds with representatives of the Poroshenko party, both within the walls of the regional council and on the pages of newspapers. Groysman’s PR people recently accused Poroshenko’s party of a number of commissioned publications and responded to them in the same way.

By the way, about PR people. High-ranking USG sources acknowledge that Groysman has significantly limited his media and political technology budgets because of the war, and therefore his PR specialists are forced to take on unusual functions in order to maintain the favor of their patron. For example, recently in Bershad, local deputies noticed a certain Ruslan Shtogrin, who, on Groysman’s instructions, allegedly came to create a majority together with the pro-Russian Our Land party. This attempt failed, but the sediment from that voyage remained with the local deputies.

As some experts note, the pressure of Groysman’s party on local councils and heads of the UTC of Vinnytsia region, which is done by random or offended associates, can play a cruel joke on Groysman. After all, in addition to changes among the political elites of the country and regions, the socio-political moods in the country have also changed significantly.

There is no electoral year 2020 on the calendar, and people live in a completely different reality, which is built on trust in people of real deeds, and not potentially promising politicians from the past.

Recall that back in 2018, a political analyst Alexander Kochetkov predicted that Groysman had no political prospects.

“If you remember, Mr. Pustovoitenko was prime minister for quite a long time, and after he left the post, it turned out that he was nothing in the political sense,” - Groysman’s expert compared with another bankrupt politician, who also went into political oblivion.
