For the Russians, the tactics of sailing along the main roads proved disastrous. The Ukrainians successfully shot tanks clogged on communication routes, as a result of which there was a defeat near Kyiv. Now that the Ukrainians are on the attack again and are retaking more and more cities every day, there were fears that they would be able to mount an offensive against the autumn rain and heavy rains.
It turns out, however, that the weather, even if it worsens, should not indulge Ukrainians.. According to the former commander of the Ground Forces, General Waldemar Skshipchak, the Ukrainian side thought out the entire offensive very well.
- In my opinion, the Ukrainians are prepared for the autumn mud, and this is because they have a different military organizational structure from the Russians. They have heavy troops like the Russians, but they also have light formations that the Russians don’t have. So, if the autumn rains started now, some of the troops would probably be in the mud, but in general, the Ukrainians could use light, maneuverable troops. According to General Skshipchak, these units will be able to continue to operate and attack using wheeled armored personnel carriers.
Ukrainians can keep moving even in rain and mud
The most successful Ukrainian offensive was in the Kharkov area, where the leading attackers are already approaching the village of Svatovo. Fierce battles are also going on for Lyman. And although the terrain is favorable to the Russians, it is already clear that light detachments are the most effective way to get into the Russian rear. And they, according to General Skshipchak, can affect the success of a further operation.
- Ukrainians are not so burdened with this caterpillar burden. As a rule, when rains or thaws come, the armored troops get bogged down, and the rest of the lungs run across and go forward, says the military.
