The number of cases of influenza and viral infections in Poland continues to rise. Combination antigen tests are very popular to determine which types of viruses are causing the infection. Tests are not available in some pharmacies. The Ministry of Health announces that they will become more available in January.

In December, the incidence of influenza increased significantly. Approximately 270,000 cases are registered weekly. Half of them are children. Accumulation of cases of influenza, RSV and COVID-19 leads to overcrowding of pediatric wards. In pharmacies, you can buy a test that will show if the infection is caused by the influenza virus.

How does the combined antigen test work?

According to experts, the demand for combo tests is high. Before Christmas, I had to stand in queues at some pharmacies. This type of test detects influenza A and B antigens, RSV, and SARS-CoV-2 in the body. The test is based on the use of specific monoclonal antibodies (contained in the test cassette) directed against antigens characteristic of these viruses.

“Employees dealing with the epidemic situation in Poland decided to introduce tests that differentiate influenza, RSV and COVID-19. On December 23, Minister of Health Adam Nedzielski announced through social networks information about the increase in the availability of these tests in the new year.
