Swimming at the breakwater can end tragically, especially when it’s rough. Why? Rescuers explained it simply.
Speaking and obeying is not always effective, so the rescuers of one of the Baltic beaches decided to show why the place at the breakwater is so dangerous. Their show was recorded by one of the followers (@janusznowak7) and posted on TikTok. The video became an instant hit.
Why is it dangerous on a breakwater?
As the lifeguard standing on the breakwater with a megaphone explains, the breakwater itself is used to break the waves, and thanks to this we have a long beach. But, as he points out, the breakwater also has a downside - when the waves break against it, a whirlwind is created that erodes the sand at the breakwater itself. This means that there is a sudden break, a deep trench, and you lose ground in the blink of an eye. The second rescuer demonstrated this to sunbathers by entering the water at the breakwater itself.
The lifeguard also explains that the show is possible and safe on the float, ie. on a calm sea, without waves. The situation is completely different when there are waves. “That’s why we constantly tell you to stay away from the breakwater and don’t say it just like that,” the lifeguard explains. The rescuer stressed that this applies to both children and adults.
WOPR rescuers are also always encouraged to follow their messages. Before the heat wave, most of the Baltic beaches had red flags forbidding entry into the water. Nevertheless, there were many who took risks, and the men’s bath in Mielno ended tragically.
