Ukraine has been asking partners for a long time to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with cluster munitions, but has not received a positive response. Now the situation has changed - such shells are in the next package of American aid. True, with certain conditions.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov named the key principles that the Defense Forces will adhere to using cluster munitions, Operative APU writes.
First, Ukraine will use these munitions only for the de-occupation of internationally recognized Ukrainian territories. They will not be used on the officially recognized territory of Russia.
Secondly, cluster munitions will not be used in cities to avoid risks to civilians. They will be used in places of accumulation of the Russian military to break through the enemy’s defense lines with minimal risk to the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.
Thirdly, a strict record will be kept of the use of these weapons and the local zones where they will be used.
Fourthly, the Ukrainian territories where cluster munitions will be used, after de-occupation, will be a priority in demining, which will eliminate the risks associated with unexploded elements.
Fifth, Ukraine will report to partners on the use of such weapons and their effectiveness.
The package includes:
-
32 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and 32 Stryker armored personnel carriers;
-
Additional ammunition for Patriot and HIMARS air defense systems;
-
Air defense missiles AIM-7;
-
Anti-aircraft systems Stinger, Javelin;
