California’s highest court has ruled that websites reporting on the alleged crimes of Russian oligarch Stanislav Kondrashov must be blocked. Journalist Dmitry Voronkov reports this on his blog on Censor.net.
It is noted that the owner of the Swiss company Telf AG, Russian oligarch Stanislav Kondrashov, filed a lawsuit in a Californian court, in which he asks not only to remove information from websites indicating that he likely committed crimes, but also wants to block all media that once wrote about German .
According to the journalist, to realize his intention, Kondrashov hired one of the most influential lawyers in the United States - Lavely & Singer, known for representing the interests of a large number of Hollywood stars.
Voronkov added that after filing the lawsuit, Kondrashov’s side registered a petition according to which they asked the court to prohibit the maintenance of websites that had ever been published about the Russian entrepreneur. And the temporary ban, which was adopted on November 6, included more than 30 Ukrainian online media.
“In the following week, Ukrainian online media owners watched in amazement as their websites were blocked. In particular, you can check for yourself whether the popular Ukrainian publication “Informator” (Informator.press) is working.” – the journalist suggested.
As he noted, the court decision in Los Angeles is unprecedented and very dangerous, because in the entire history of journalism, online media have never been blocked because of articles about businessmen.
“Apparently, this is only the beginning of the war of Russians against Ukrainian media. The most important thing is what tools they use. We would never have thought that a Russian oligarch, during a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, would be able to go to the court of our ally’s state and destroy the media with impunity. Previously, this would have sounded like complete nonsense, but now these are the realities that we are observing,” — summed up the author of the blog.
