Working to undermine and weaken NATO and the European Union is part of Russia’s strategy of hybrid aggression against the West. Ukraine and NATO must work together to effectively counter Russia’s hybrid threats. Guildhall spoke about this in an interview Member of the Bundestag from the political force of the CDU / CSU, member of the Bundestag Committee on the European Union Tobias Winkler.

“Attempts to divide NATO, influence the Alliance, attempts to divide the EU are part of the Russian hybrid war strategy. I am convinced that one of Putin’s key miscalculations in invading Ukraine was precisely in his belief that we would not rise in unity by supporting Ukraine. We did it for both NATO and the EU,” - said the German parliamentarian.

Answering a question about possible cooperation between Ukraine and NATO to effectively counter Russian hybrid threats, the German parliamentarian said that such cooperation is necessary.

“Let’s take the field of cybersecurity, Germany and our level of training need help, for example, the Baltic countries, which have a high level of counteraction to this type of threat. Certainly, we (Ukraine and NATO countries, EU. — Auth.) it is necessary to cooperate efforts in this area of countering hybrid threats”, summed up Tobias Winkler.

Earlier, a group of Bundestag deputies made a number of statements that in recent years the German government has underestimated the importance of countering Russian hybrid influence. Today, Russian hybrid threats are a serious challenge for Germany and Western democracies, they say, and Germany must provide funding and counteract them.
