The Russian rocket attack on December 5 caused quite significant damage to both power plants and substations, which are part of the main network.
“Emergency restrictions on power supply will be until some power units, which were abnormally switched off during the attack, will gain power. This is a standard workflow that we have seen more than once after massive attacks, when it takes a day or two to restore the level of production in the system.- noted Volodymyr Kudrytsky, Head of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo.
According to him, there are certain regions that have suffered more than others. This is, in particular, the Odessa region, where voltage is supplied through backup power schemes in order to resume the operation of critical infrastructure. The situation there should improve within a few days.
Recall that the National Commission for State Regulation in the Energy and Public Utilities (NEURC) has developed a new mechanism for calculating consumed electricity. If, due to power outages, people are unable to transmit meter readings in a timely manner, the regional energy authorities will apply a reduction factor for the average daily volume of electricity used.
