The White House has privately told the Kremlin that any use of nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine would be disastrous for the Russian Federation, and the United States and its allies would respond strongly.

This was stated in an interview with CBS News by National Security Adviser to the President of the United States Jake Sullivan.

According to him, the United States has publicly signaled that it will respond strongly if Russia uses nuclear weapons and continue to support Ukraine in its efforts to protect the state and its democracy.

At the same time, Sullivan agreed with the journalist’s remark that Putin has never been so cornered as he is now.

“That’s true, and it’s a matter that we must take deadly seriously because it’s a matter of paramount importance - the possible use of nuclear weapons for the first time since World War II,” he said.

At the same time, according to Sullivan, the United States “directly, privately, at a very high level, told the Kremlin that any use of nuclear weapons would be disastrous for Russia, that the United States and our allies would respond decisively.”

Recall, according to media reports, for several months the US State Department has been secretly corresponding with Moscow about the consequences of the use of nuclear weapons.

Earlier, the White House said that they were seriously considering the threat of Russian President Vladimir Putin to use nuclear weapons, but did not yet see signs of preparations for a strike.

Meanwhile, the US administration, together with partners, is discussing a response plan in the event that the Russian Federation uses nuclear weapons.

In addition, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia will not be able to win a nuclear war, and Putin’s rhetoric is dangerous and irresponsible.

In addition, the Pope, speaking to the faithful in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican during the weekly general audience, called allusions to the use of nuclear weapons “madness.”

Note that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky considers it unlikely that Putin will resort to the use of nuclear weapons.
