Before giving birth, Corkill was informed three times that her child would be taken away. The woman herself claimed, however, that in this way the services unfairly punished her for the behavior of her former partner, which then led to the removal of her first two children.
The boy was up for adoption. Fate quickly smiled at him and in August 2020 he left the family of Laura Castle (38) and her husband Scott (35). A woman who wanted to adopt a boy led to his death.
boy murder
Leyland-James died in January 2021. The boy, according to Castle, was about to fall off the couch in the room and injure himself. The baby’s head injury was evidence of something else. Only at the trial, the 38-year-old told what she had actually done with the child.
Castle pleaded guilty to the boy’s murder in court, but denied that she intended to harm or kill him. During the investigation, investigators found messages on her phone to her husband in which she addressed the child with vulgar epithets.
On the unfortunate day, January 6, the boy almost cried. This angered the 38-year-old man, who flew into a rage. The woman shook the boy, then hit his head against the back of the sofa. The child fell from her lap to the floor.
“I just wanted him to stop crying,” the defendant Castle later explained. “I just lost my mind,” added the 38-year-old.
The mother of the dead boy spoke
The biological mother of the boy admitted to the media that even after the death of the child she could not take him in her arms. - On January 6, they called me and said that Leyland was in the hospital. I asked what happened. I heard that the child, most likely, had an accident, fell off the sofa and his condition is critical, - Corkill explained on the BBC. By the time the woman reached the institution, her son was already dead. - I just froze in place. I didn’t know what to do. And then I finally entered his room and wanted to hug him, but I was not allowed, she added.
Corkill wrote a dramatic letter to the Preston court. It was there that the touching words of the mother were read when the verdict was pronounced in the case of the murder of her son.
“Leyland-James Corkill is my favorite little son, my beautiful blue-eyed son! He was the reason for my desire to live. He is my light in the darkness of the pain of my life. My little son Leyland-James was going to come home! A house full of love. I made sure he had everything he needed, his nursery was decorated, his clothes were in drawers, and the stroller was waiting in the hallway of the safe house. Corkill wrote.
Although, as she pointed out, there was no reason to take the child away from her, but still. Her then 7-month-old son ended up in a “monster house”. “Leyland-James was torn from my loving hands, I will be his mother forever. I carried him in my body for 9 months with every beat of my heart, full of love, pride, full of promises” - were the touching words of my mother. “I carry him in my heart, I hear his laugh, I see his beautiful smile that brightened my days,” she added.
Corkill wrote that no amount of punishment would bring her son back to life or lessen her pain. The woman also noted that she could not forgive the tormentor who took the life of an innocent creature. “He never was and never will be your son,” the boy’s biological mother emphasized.
In May, Castle was sentenced to life in prison for manslaughter.
