Sex in the city defined a generation and now fans love to see three of their four favorite girls in a revival/sequel And just like that…overcoming many different lives and personal challenges. With the series already renewed for a third season, fans are looking forward to seeing more recurring characters, including returning characters like Aidan Shaw and brand new characters.
The new characters are varied and interesting. From the sexually free, confident and adventurous woman who replaces Samantha to Miranda’s first non-binary love interest, all the characters add something unique to the series.
10 Che Diaz
Fans love that Che is the first non-binary character on the show. These are strong, self-confident people who are not afraid to go beyond the usual. But even though Che is a fresh, new look, this character has not been as well received as the others.
There are fans who appreciate Che’s brutal honesty and swagger combined with Miranda’s frenzied energy. But some fans do not like that Che, albeit inadvertently, contributed to negative changes in Miranda. She became like a lost little girl, a shell of her strong, feminist, independent woman. Perhaps they did not really like the story of Che, and not the character himself. However, although Che is one of the newer characters with the most screen time, he is not among the most popular.
9 Brady Hobbs
Technically, Brady is not a new character: he appeared in the original series as a baby. But the red-haired young man is now a grown man. At first, Brady came across as an obnoxious character, a selfish, ungrateful young man who constantly had sexual relations with his girlfriend at his parents’ house, blaming them for somehow coming to terms with it.
But in the second season, Brady started to turn the corner. After a difficult breakup, he showed a more vulnerable side. He became closer to his mother, shared his feelings about the separation of his parents and began to try to find himself. As troubling as he is at times, Brady genuinely epitomizes the difficult experiences of young adults and the sense of loss some feel when they are thrown into the real world.
8 Jackie Nee
In execution Bobby Leebest known for his role in a comedy series MadTVJackie seems like the exact opposite of who Carrie could be friends with. However, their podcast brought the two characters together in the same room for years and brought them closer together. Carrie shares a great deal of affection for Jackie and vice versa.
His humor and quirkiness make him the show’s standout character. He brings joy and light to Carrie’s life, even in her darkest days. Fans love his unique friendship with Carrie, which is so deep that it’s his wife whose failed dress led to Carrie pulling out that old wedding dress in the iconic throwback scene.
7 Giuseppe
Fans frantically googled the name of the actor who plays the flamboyant young Italian poet whom Anthony falls madly in love with when he first appeared on the show. Giuseppe’s baby face, soft poetic tone and strong Italian accent make it a pleasure to watch him on screen. Fans love how the character helps the usually wary and always anxious Anthony finally break down his walls.
His appearance on the show is one of the most hilarious, with a cameo appearance by Drew Barrymore and a tight-fitting outfit that leaves little to the imagination. Fans are hoping that Giuseppe will become Anthony’s new love interest after losing Stanford.
6 Lysette Ali
Carrie sees Lisette as a reflection of her younger self. A hard-working entrepreneur, Lisette is a single, fashionable young woman just trying to survive in New York City, just like Carrie at her age. Carrie liked Lisette so much that she sold her apartment to her for robbery.
Lisette is rarely seen, but she is always there to help Carrie through difficult times, and vice versa. She views Carrie as a mentor and fans love how open, kind and sweet Lisette looks.
5 Lisa Todd Wexley
Lisa’s children go to the same school as Charlotte. The two moms bond quickly when they meet and realize how much they have in common, which creates a beautiful friendship. Lisa’s story is one of the most memorable in the series. Her husband is hardworking and successful, but Lisa has always put her career aspirations on the back burner. Now that her kids are older, she’s finally focused on herself, but she’s still having a hard time balancing it all.
When she discovers she’s pregnant in Season 2 after finally making it in her career, fans sympathize with Lisa and her conflicted feelings, and then sympathize with her as she loses her baby and deals with her guilt. The second season’s storyline makes fans see Lisa in a whole new light, beyond just being a stylish, beautiful mother and director.
4 Lily Goldenblatt
Both Lily and Rose (Rock) are perfect embodiments of the teenage experience. Lili is known as a successful student and pianist who finally wants to give up everything and just be a kid. She wants to do what she wants without having to always be perfect.
She starts dating and even decides to write her own music, singing about her distaste for her privilege. Fans love to see the grown-up Lily, who was introduced in Sex in the city as a child, she became a strong young woman.
3 Rock Goldenblatt
Charlotte and Harry’s other daughter, Rose, is another reflection of a strong child. Taking on the name Rock and adopting the pronouns they/them, Rock, like Lily, is not afraid to be herself. They forge their own path and set a great example for teenagers who may be afraid to be comfortable in their own skin.
Rock’s short stint as a model, followed by a departure after her mother took over and obsessed over every detail, was one of the highlights of the character’s history. But most importantly, fans love to see The Rock slowly change their style, mannerisms and actions to be more in line with who they really are.
2 Seema Patel
Seema seems to be taking Samantha’s place as one of the funniest characters and Carrie’s new close friend. She is constantly lonely, focused on her career, often brash and unapologetic.
Fans love her fierce independence and strong sense of self. Despite finding potential love in the second season, when he invites her to move to Egypt with him for six months while he shoots the film, she bluntly tells him that she won’t leave her life and career, “period.” Sima desperately wants to communicate, but behaves decisively. What fans love is that underneath her tough exterior, they see that Seema is kind-hearted, vulnerable, and wants to be loved.
1 Dr. Nia Wallace
Nya is one of the show’s brightest new characters. A tenured law professor at Columbia University, she is first introduced as Miranda’s teacher. Like Sima, Nia becomes a friend to all women who help her through infertility and marital difficulties.
Seeing Nia free herself from the pressures of having a baby and enter the dating scene for the first time in her adult life is exhilarating for fans. Despite her immense intelligence, Dr. Wallace almost reverts to childlike innocence when she finally manages to enjoy her time for once. She has a good head on her shoulders and gets along with everyone, which makes her one of the sweetest and most even-tempered of them all.
